surprised I just caught it on the news, it`s awful. I thought it was footage of Florida at first.
Best wishes to any effected by this. ((((hugs))))

I caught a clip of it last night whilst on the cam to someone on here ;) i couldn't believe what I was watching ... it's heartbreaking to watch anywhere but moreso in your own country.
We've thankfully received the okay from friends of ours in Tampa Bay Florida and the strom thankfully missed them in terms of damage although she did have her car written off by flying debris and the wind sad
Hugs and thoughts for all affected
My friends dad came back from holiday to find his nice new house was flooded !!!
Crap come down from a holiday sad
Ive just seen it in the paper and its unbelievable, definately doesnt look like somewhere in England.
Hope everyone is fine
Well I must be mad. I am going camping from Sunday not Cornwall but down south. I was at Bostcastle at easter time. It is such a lovely place and such devestation in a matter of hours. sad So far apart from the damage to property there doesnt seem to be any casulties thank goodness. smile
Last report I heard there were 15 people unaccounted for. I`m hoping these were not casulties.

ya think they brought that film out at the right time
"the day after tomorrow"
cos the weather is scary as shite at the moment
What surprised me is that I had been keeping a close eye on the hurricanes as the big one was headed straight for a good friend who lives in a trailer, she evacuated, but was unable to find anywhere for her dog. Thankfully for her (but not for those it did eventually hit) it veered off the expected path.
I had no idea about Cornwall until this afternoon. I don`t watch a great deal of TV though.

Splish, Splash we are wet in a flash!!!!
Everyone that I have met up there today (due to work coverage within the area) is in extraordinary high spirits considering the damage done!!!
Worst of all... the fucking pasty shops washed away!!!! Damn!!!!!
And as I sit here typing this message and reading other threads,, the rain still comes down and now we have the joy of thunder rolling!! thank god I am 50 miles down road from Boscastle but I have to go back again tomorrow!!!
I will say it is annoying to have so many holiday makers coming down just to look...it is not a shop display window, this is peoples lives ad it is a harsh reality that they can't just close their doors to it for the time being!!
I was glad that the police did put in a form of barrier to filter in and out however they still were walking in over cliffs etc..
News said no one was hurt or killed today so very happy. Cant believe it though as I was there and its such a beautiful place. For those who live near ther big kiss and hope you were all okay!!!!!!!!!!!
Memo to self: Occasionally Jules, pick up the newspaper or switch the fecking news on TV.
To all affected, hope you're ok. Our thoughts are with you, and if anyone needs any help with anything, just give us a holler and we will be there.
love n stuff

IU can't agree with you more. The morbid curiosity of some people is impossible to believe!
In situation like this. Someone like the Sally Army, who do magnificent work where there is a disaster, should put up a stand and charge all those lookers £50 each, to gaze at others misfortune. At least it might help to compensate veeryone who's insurance company tries to get out of paying compensation. And I'll bet there's a few, but then again I suppose I'm a cynic.
BIG HUGS for all our cornish friends :therethere:
Big hugs for everyone in Cornwall !! :therethere:
If it's any consolation, I had problems starting the car this morning because the plugs were flooded !!! confused :? :? :? lol
Sarge somehow I dont think your flooded spark plug carried a 10ft wave with it!!!!
heeheehee!!!
I know, it was my attempt at empathy !!! confused :? :?

Empathy or Sympathy, you're washed out with this one Sgt.
I have been Boscastle and it is a lovely place. Visited the Witchcraft museum, had lunch at the pub, looked around the little new age shop, walked down to the harbour entrance with it's high cliffs. It's very similiar to a Norweigan Fjord I believe, the place is sheltered buy it's cliffs and valley slopes. A unique geographical landscape that unfortunatley has led to this incident, albeit caused by freak weather conditions.
Having been there and walked down it's peaceful streets makes this all the more poignant for me,as I'm sure it does for all who have visted this place. Though you don't have to have ever been there to appreciate the disaster that has befallen this community.
So if anyone from Boscastle or nearby happens to read this, we hope you will accept our kind thoughts. We are thinking of you and wish you all the best in rebuilding your community soon.
Regards LC.

Its a classic case of "there but for the grace of god go i" and the innate human nature to gorp!
Thing is.. .how many of us have watched the telly and seen the same thing in other countries, there are gorpers there as well.. and I have to say, If I was close I'm afraid I'd have been out with the camera to capture the moment.
Where I would always fail as a news photographer and "wild life" is that if I felt I could help then the camera would go down and I'd be in there... It must take quite a bit of clinical detachment to be able to photograph suffering, or a little baby animal in need, and not feel the need to help and step in.
That said, I work within the same detachment when doing a shoot... professional mode kicks in and attraction and involvement goes out of the mind! But I know I could never watch and not step in if I felt I could help in such a situation!
I'm glad that, so far, the human cost has been none... just property damage. From a spectators POV the film of the cars disappearing down the high street were quite amazing... hard to believe that this was in the UK!
And yes... to "flicknlick-cpl" it is very scary that we're having all this strange weather just after the film "the day after tomorrow...." but that said, I remember as a kid hearing about global famine and that the UK would not be able to sustain the current number of individuals there are in 2000 from back in the 70's n 80's yet the doom mungers were wrong then!
I'm going to go off on a huge hijack here, and a socio-economic tangent.... but a lot of the places and environmental things that we in 2004 are trying to preserve and keep going would never have existed had it not been for the way we ignored the world ages ago... the marshes of east-Anglia and all the now "preserved" wild life only came to being because man drained the land, Little communities and "countryside" only came about because of man... there is a huge issue at the moment in Scotland and the like because we now are worried that we will loose the fauna and wild life of the hedges because land is being left to grow wild... but what of the time before we built hedges! before we worked the land... where was the field mouse then? the barn owl? and so on....
Extinction has always been happening... but we worry about it so much not because of the animals but because we worry about our own end... if we cannot save some "dumb animal" then how can we think about saving our own species?
The "greens" have been saying that its all down to global warming... pollution... etc... (hey if you're a political party wouldn’t you make a profit from the suffering of others?) yet the reality is that prior to "mans era" the world was far warmer than it is now... forests covered most of the world, the temp was degrees higher than it is now, it was the cooling (or catastrophic event) that removed the dinosaurs... so why worry about warming, its life, and the world will do what its been doing since it was created... creating life and destroying it... We are here for a brief moment, when we're gone we end, only our influence on others may keep us going in memories.. but nothing else there is no afterlife... just the here and now!
Never mind that!.......................... are you there red?
My thoughts are with everyone in Cornwall.......I hope everything gets sorted......
My sympathy to all whose lives have been devastated by the terrible events in that beautifull place, I have travelled in the area and it is wonderfull to be there in the good weather, but I am glad to get home where we don't have those kind of problems.
O.K.
