all week.... surely not. Oh well looks like I'll be having lots of long soaks in the bath so I avoid it all.
No wonder Britain is in such a depressive state these days... rolleyes
Coronation Street--you either get it or you dont.
To my mind week in week out its one of the finest comedies on the telly. But that's just what I get out of it. Its all there if you look. The phrase soap opera is apt.
I don't watch it regularly cos I do think they padded it out too much to fill the schedules. When I do watch, I pick up the characters and plots almost immediately and enjoy it for what it is.
Last night was a bit heavy for me but as usual was beautifully crafted and entertaining.
I will definitely be watching the next few. I am furious that the print media leaked plot details.
I was forced to watch it by the other 'alf* and the bit when the tram comes off the bridge can only be described as the Worst. CG. Ever! lol
Not sure I'll need to watch it the rest of the week though. They've telegraphed enough of the next 3 months worth of plotlines to make further watching completely unneccessary. ;)
N x x x ;)
*may not be strictly accurate.
Do you remember when alec gilroy took over the rovers return and bought himself a Brewers Dictionary and declared it "no use nor blummin ornament".
Oh and the vintage clips which show the genius of some of Victoria Woods parody sketches. That one with the battleaxe in the shop gossiping whilst interspersing her rant with orders for various dry goods.
"......and shes no better than she should be--Ill have a quarter of dried ocelot foot---all kippers and curtains ----and a pound of goat nail clippings......."
Bliss.
In terms of lot development I have a suspicion that Molly will die and Kevin Webster will split up with Sally and realise his affair with Molly was just an expression of his subverted passion for Tyrone. He and Tyrone will fall madly in love, Kev will regrow his moustache and they will establish a Village People tribute band. Baby Jack will be the first British soap opera character raised in a stable loving gay family.
Well I can live in hope.
Bloody train wasn't big enough the explosion wasn't big enough. I'm not a happy bunny. It should of been a mahoosive ending to the bloody programme then they could of started a new soap more real to life set in somewhere like west Swindon or Redditch where real people live day to day normal lives where no one knows the name of their neighbours but only know its them because of the make of car in the drive waysit takes a 2 mile journey to get to the nearest pub which is a harvester type affair comprising of a 19 year old manager running the place with an assortment of bemused other staff.
Don't tell me, someone is having someone's baby - and they're not married/underage/male. Someone came back from being in prison for murder and is now a) a comedy character and b) a completely different actor. And I'm assuming a whole bunch of people died - there was a really unlikely hero who staggered out of the wreck with a baby in his/her arms, someone died having confeesed undying love for someone else's wife.
And some people in the real world are already writing letters of condolence to completely fictional characters.
Close?
I was very disappointed not to see Rosie Websters clothes all fall off (in true Kenny Everet style)
but there's still a few days to go...

Which is a bit like saying the Beano is some kind of literature.
How can all that happen in one street.
Of course it can't but that is not what soaps are about, the scenarios they portray are acted out in real life everyday in some part of the country, every issue is dealt with and that is why people love it. Because you cannot show a soap that envelops the whole country they squeeze and cram it into one fictional area of Manchester or london, people think it wrong, but between the soaps there is hardly an issue of real life that has not been explored over the years.
Many knockers yes, but your outnumbered by the fans, 50 years, I don't care who you are or what you do, if you can be in the top 3 of your chosen task for 50 years then the mockers are possibly not thinking clearly.
There are many things I don't enjoy but I choose to avoid them without knocking them or the people that do enjoy them.
As for corrie, I love it and was lucky enough and am old enough to remember the first episode, in 50 years of on off following the street ,the aniversary storyline is the best ever, the live episode was excellent and showed some true talent, the storyline evolving with each episode was at times as riveting as the latest cinema blockbuster, long may the street live.
I recorded all the episodes and watched them all at once which made it even better and as good as many a film I have seen recently.
I do find some things sad, like people who knock the things that others enjoy just because it's not "thier cup of tea" enjoy what you enjoy and avoid what you don't without the sarcastic comments about the other people or be honest and add that aspect of your personality to your profile ie "if you don't agree with the things I like your a sad person and I/we don't want to meet you" wink

I agree 98% with what you say ref the story lines they are just basically compressed news and gossip. What I dont like about some soaps is the over exaggerated characters or the characters that change almost unrecognizingly just so they fit in. The worst example ever of a character change is Minty from Eastenders. Started off as a hard man landlord with no heart and no compassion ready to evict a young mother with no care in the world. Turns into a lovely happy go lucky but unlucky in love softy who couldn't beat up a flea. Utterly ridiculous lol
Of course I have to agree with you about such character changes as Minty, they are common within the soap world, but I guess we have to accept that TV Programme writers have to do such things in order to make the real life issues and storylines interesting to TV viewers and not turn the programme into a documentary/fly on the wall style of programme, lord knows there are enough of them.
I personally avoid the new wave of programmes that are not only cheap to make but also profit making, Big Brother, X Factor, Dancing on Ice/floors/air/tin cans etc or the stream of "I used to be a bit of a celebrity and would like to be noticed again so stick me in a jungle or come and dine with me or do something to me to get me noticed" programmes but I also accept that lot's of people love them and get a lot of enjoyment from them.
