With regard to pica being your body's way of telling you need certain nutrients I don't know. I think this has never been proven. I thought pica was just for the unusual, usually non edible cravings such as coal, paper etc However many ladies go off coffee and as this is one of the worst stimulants for our bodies, I think this makes great sense.

I think you've confused two posts honey. Pica is a disorder that means you crave inedible substances, as you say. I think that's different to a craving for edible things - it was a doctor who told me that cravings (for edible stuff) are your body's way of ensuring you get certain nutrients. I don't know whether it's been proven either, it was just something I was told once.
