I craved peaches with one and cheese with the other. With both pregnancies, I got a liking for desserts which before that I would never opt for, and that's stayed with me, I alsway choose a sweet dessert now as opposed to before I would always choose cheese as a dessert.
With regard to pica being your body's way of telling you need certain nutrients I don't know. I think this has never been proven. I thought pica was just for the unusual, usually non edible cravings such as coal, paper etc However many ladies go off coffee and as this is one of the worst stimulants for our bodies, I think this makes great sense.

I think you've confused two posts honey. Pica is a disorder that means you crave inedible substances, as you say. I think that's different to a craving for edible things - it was a doctor who told me that cravings (for edible stuff) are your body's way of ensuring you get certain nutrients. I don't know whether it's been proven either, it was just something I was told once.

The coal craving is quite a common one.

I haven't looked at this thread until today, not having been pregnant and all that (no really, I haven't)
But the first thing I thought of as the *common craving* was coal... it certainly used to be common, anyone still crave coal?... or do you think that with fewer open fires these days, and coal becoming less accessable it dropped in popularity?
Or, Horror of Horrors! Might there be small renegade bands of second trimester women hopping over garden fences commando stylee in the summer attempting to snatch charcoal from pre-prepared barbees as the cook nips into the kitchen to fetch out the steaks, or whatever the hell it is thats burned on bbq's these days?

that reminds me off when i worked in a petrol station and a pregnant woman use to come in all the time because she loved the smell of the petrol, and i've heard of other woman loving the smell of tar and driving round trying to find where it was being layed.

I craved the smell of petrol and furniture polish. Our car was always full and my house was always spotless. So how come I still put on about 6 stone!! confused

My cravings with my first was big bags of minstrels and vanilla cream slices and with the second was saveloy dips.
My first pregnancy was: Grapefruit

My third was: Ice poles
& My fourth was: Orange and lemon ice lollies and SEX ( I had my first gush in this pregnancy and thought my waters had gone redface )
