Thanks MandH.......I had different id's for forum and ads......I just happened to choose the one from my ad - I wasn't exactly well known here on the forum, having been mainly a lurker in the past.

.... I want the mark all/delete all function back again.

Agreeed on this one! I've just gone through and deleted about 200 by hand but I've still got over a thousands to go. That'll teach me to hoard things! redface
And Agreed HLB with this little posting. smile
Yes I can see and know the work involved, but "for little thanks"???
The MODs get very little thanks
The Admin get a big fat pay cheque

And I'm glad that the changes theyve made in the last few hours now allow me to see the posts I've made and to actaully post something without an error message! lol

I really liked the way the old system was, separate log-ins for the forum and the ads. If someone wanted to use both, then couldn't they have registered in both sections like what alot of people did? Also the look and feel was so much user-friendly (or maybe its becaise of its familiarity).
Just hoping everything settles down and resembles what it used to. smile

If someone has registered in both sections before then they can set up 2 accounts if they want to, but they would have to have 2 usernames, well pretty much like before.
With reagrd to look and feel we spent a lot of time tring to keep most things in the same place, the menu on the right hand side is the biggest change but we felt it was needed.
And I hope it settles down.

It strikes me that you could have kept things in exactly the same place in no time at all confused
Seriously, I've done my best to make constructive criticisms and open a dialogue with the new owners, but when 80% of users call the changes 'a bad dream they want to wake up from', isn't it time to cut your losses and retrace your steps?
I don't want SH to die, but frankly, I'm beginning to despair.

I think it will all get there in the end... and has anyone of us over the age of 20 not seen a "new broom" aproach when a company has been taken over, or a new manager apointed to a department?
(interjecting a side note... in a web world "members" is the most important figure in the world... merging the three areas of this site into one shows 362,051 members so high numbers even if the reality is that there is only 2,000 real members... thats why NTL is upping the bandwith all the time for users... to show big numbers using it all, and not spare capacity as investers see that as waste and stock market listings plumet)
I'm not going to have a guess at what mark was paid... but the investment in this site with changes is probably between 20 and 100K so far for man hours... and will probably cost about 100 to 250K+ over the next 2 to 6 months if not far more.
Mark, un-costed, probably put into this site close to a million pounds if not way way more... all done for the love and not the money.
My own site cost me nothing apart from my time... I even work with models on a barter system of TFP but in reality it probably equates to nearly 300K of costed input with a real cost of about 1,500 pounds for my camera and flash... the rest is done for love of what I do and an ocasional bit of beer money (why I will die poor and my son will inherit the works of a poor artist, lol)

I just wish some of the others would understand that point. rolleyes
Complaining about the sudden rise in membership – as if 10’s of 1000’s suddenly rushed to the site to join. If they were all ‘new’ members then the new owners are indeed marketing geniuses and will be giving Saatchi & Saatchi a ferkin good run for their money.

80% of old forum users M_Discreet, actually 137 users - not 80% of 360000 members.
A very small minority I think you will find, in fact.
Patience is a virtue. lol

Don’t despair – keep using your energy constructively.
Think of it this way :
Collectively the regular forum users are a key consumer group. The voice of the consumer counts. Companies pay shed loads of money to try and get feedback from their customers – usually in less quantity than the new owners are getting here. But if to find the valid points they have to trudge through a swamp of whinge – they are likely to miss something important
Companies often pilot new ideas and see what response it gets – being constructive may just help shape the future.
Someone made a point about the (slow) speed of the site - this can be due to many things but top of the list will be server spec and size of the internet feed. Unless connection speed has been/will be improved paying members will soon look elsewhere.. smile

Paying members will soon look elsewhere when they don't get any action lol

I hope so, but will there be any of the existing members around, or will they all have gone elsewhere!
The very people who made this site the attractive proposition that it was (the members) will have gone, the new paying members will be getting no action and what will happen to the site then?
I really do think that the new owners have been working very hard to get things back up and running and that St3v3 (the only member of the admin team, who in my opiniion, seems to have any respect for the 'older' members) always seems to be providing updates etc on progress. But come on guys, it wasnt broke, so has we have been saying, why did you try to fix it?

At this moment in time I cannot see any real reason for that to be forced to happen - unless that is what the 'the members' want to do. I agree the thing that made the forum (for forum users) was not the place - as the place is just a screen on your monitor. It was the people and what they posted - they can still do that.
Yes there are some changes.
Yes there may be changes in the future - but there 'may be' lots of things that could or couldn't happen.

Any clues as to around the time this all happened date wise so I can check back and look through the threads?
Thanks
The management needs to look at getting servers that dont crash. The information is at stratus..com and if they like what they see then they should get in touch and I will tell them who I work for and how I can help.
