DAB/fm/am portable radio?

A techy I need help post redface

I've been looking at radio's for someone's Christmas present but they want one that has DAB/FM/AM channels as they like FM but also like the AM channels for the sport
There doesn't seem to be much choice unless I want to spend £200 :crazy: which I don't (tightwad I know :giggle smile

They already have a 'normal' FM/AM portable radio so my question is do you know of a more affordable option that has all 3?

In the dim and distant past we wanted our first DVD player. (yes it was THAT long ago). Now I didn't know one end of a DVD from another, let alone what the gumph about regions and stuff was. So I did some research. It was easy. I bought a Which? magazine that had a double-page spread of all the makes of DVD player, giving comparisons and advice. Usefully, it also included definitions of the factors involved with DVDs. Very, very handy.
So, long story short - I'd recommend you get a Which? guide to DAB and see what it suggests.

They won't necessarily need the AM for the sport, Tan, as you'll find they have sports channels on DAB. Not sure if they are the same ones they use now, but at least alternatives.

Tan, both BBC 5 live and Talksport broadcast on DAB, and you can find some radios cheaper than £200 here.

Ah but the problem with DAB is not all channels are broadcast in every area, hence them wanting the DAB/AM/FM mix as they travel about a bit lol

Have a look at the pure highway which is a DAB- FM transmitter so it receives DAB radio and re transmits it onto any FM radio, so you can use it in the house or in the car, you can plug in your headphones and use it as a mobile DAB radio or plug an MP3 player into it and use it to play your MP3's through any FM stereo. as most Fm radios have AM its probably the most versatile solution wink

Is the transmitter to go with the radio? or instead of?

the highway receives DAB radio signals. you can listen to them using headphones and its portable.
it also allows you to tune it in to any FM radio such as your car stereo or hifi, so you can listen through big speakers.
it also has a socket thingy that you can plug an ipod into, then you can play this through the big speakers too.

I never have a problem getting turned on :giggle: turning others on seems to be the problem :sad:

So if we are using this coat hanger as an aerial, then once we sort that, how are we finding the stations?
If we turn the dial to far one way, will we eventually pick up the Bee Gee's?
