This has not dulled her desire to continue riding these unpredictable and smelly animals and it has to be said that this injury is fairly minor in comparison to others she has suffered in the past !!

But horses have a nice smell don't they? Unless perhaps they have just farted.
we're white water kayakers so erm erm yeh why not...also mr kk does throw himself off silly hills on his bike lol

Does anybody else think it`s ok to put yourself in such danger ??

In a word, yes.
In a few more, in my view when you love doing something enough to put in the effort to get skillful at it, you're going to want to keep doing it. There's a sense of achievement in being able to do something that is more difficult than watching TV or getting the weekly shop. My own sport gives other satisifactions in that you get to experience the natural world in a way that can't really be achieved from other activities. Perhaps it's similar with cross-country horse-riding - e.g. the relationship with the horse.
The danger is offset by your skills and, particularly as you get advanced, in the judgement that comes with experience. A few bumps and bruises are little warnings perhaps of the limits of those skills. I'd hope to listen to those and adjust for them in one way or another, so that the 'dangerous' activity never becomes reckless. That said, in the final analysis accidents happen but the most dangerous thing that most people do when pursuing any activity, is travelling on our roads to get there and back!
I have just started to Kayak, I’m still very easy to spot in the pool, being the one upside-down and drowning most of the time. rolleyes redface
Great fun though…..
Years of Martial Arts and working on scaffolding have taught me a healthy respect for safety, but I guess the old midlife crisis has set in lately and I’m viewing adrenalin sports in a whole new light.
Hang gliding is next on the list……..

Oh and there`s me feeling chuffed for drawing someone out with an interrsting post !!

Sorry Flower411 redface
I was gonna also post a response - but needed the loo and couldnt concentrate on what I was saying surprisedops:
And well done for drawing someone out with an interesting post lol
Blast!! Still can't think of a good response to this thread, cos I wanna launch a post with a TAA DAAAA captain danger here  but in reality, I'm a total wuss confused
I'm the sort of person that does enjoy what's classed as 'dangerous sports' - but I only do the very very low/easy limit, and with people that know exactly what theyre doing. Like Blueis said, you can do dangerous sports, but stay in your limit to keep as safe as poss ....... unfortunately my limit ain't very far :lol2:
I'm the sort of person that leaps over a narrow stream..... and lands in the middle of it.... on my arse :?
I can't understand things like Base Jumping or whatever it's called  Just watching it makes my stomach churn - if I ever had to jump off a cliff then there would certainly be a big streak of poo in my wake :?

Mrs f rides horses over big jumps on cross country courses cos she enjoys it. rolleyes
On Tuesday she was schooling a horse and it threw her through the fence, resulting in major bruising and general lumpiness about her body.
I ended up insisting that she go to the hospital and although nothing was broken, she did end up with a sling on one arm and some very heavy pain killers.
This has not dulled her desire to continue riding these unpredictable and smelly animals and it has to be said that this injury is fairly minor in comparison to others she has suffered in the past !!
I would never put myself in such a dangerous position, mainly due to my cowardly nature :scared:
Does anybody else think it`s ok to put yourself in such danger ??

Up to a point any sport is dangerous....whether it is horse riding.. or football... or darts for example
I played american football and rubgy up to a high standard and was always hurting something....
but my worst injury was playing basketbal which is suppose to be a non-contact sport, went up for a shot, came down and blew out my knee......
you could do yourself an injury at any time.... broke my leg knocking it again a metal post while on a new years eve night out........
so unless you go out covered in pillows there are always going to be risks.....

All exercise is bad for you. Your heart is like a battery and is only good for so many beats. The quicker you use them, the shorter your stay.....
Take a look at the Great North Run. A perfect example to prove my theory. Over the past few years, around half a dozen runners have died. - Now ask yourself how many spectators suffered the same fate?
Just waiting for pie eating to become an olympic event, then I can become an international athelete lol

Nope, just weird dunno
I can't see how you can live a normal life without putting yourself in dangerous situations. Everytime you drive a car you are at the mercy of every other road user.
Should you reduce the risk by avoiding unnecessary risks?
You could spend you whole life locked in a cupboard just to be on the safe side, me, I'd go for the risks and the thrills and I'm a coward as well.

Talking of dangerous sport what about Rally?
The most dangerous sport I know is driving around Leeds city centre in the rush hour :scared: :scared: and I have a huge fear of heights.
Horses don't scare me... spiders have that priviledge

Thanks for noticing and the welcome back. I was offline for a while. Now I'm back I just need to get into the habit of reading the forum regularly... or maybe not, knowing how much time it can take up!
Well, some of the tumbling we do in gymnastics and cheer is pretty stupid, already buggered my knee, landed on my head several times and broken my elbow this year- but still doing it!
Trapeze and pole dancing give me quite a few bruises too, and I've fallen off my stilts a fair number of times before, but i'm most likely to injure myself tripping over a big pile of air, so i'm not about to stop doing crazy tumbling skills in case i injure myself again- some of the injuries can happen doing the simplest of skills!
