I've been pretty nervious about flinging my mobile number out on the ether, but I've come up with a very good idea which some of you people out there might be interested in. I'd like to stress that this is a completely non-commercial thing - I don't get anything for recommending them
(do a search on google) is a free VOIP client made by the people who made kazaa. It allows you to call PC to PC free of charge and have a voice connection (no webcam) It also allows you to call landlines and mobiles etc (internationally) for a very cheap price & no line rental.
Obviously this means that the person the other end can hear your voice and you can have a conversation, but not have the worry about them ringing your landline when the kids are around (not a problem for me, but my flatmate might be shocked)
Enjoy!
indeed! But it's a pain to keep swapping ;- )
is such a good idea it. It really does allow free phone calls to other users.
The nice thing is you can block anyone from seeing if you're online (or on ) which means you can give out your details safe in the knowledge you can always block anyone you want.
With JQL endorsing it, I am definitely going to look into it!
Thanks folks!
Alex,
has an option (in File>Options>Privacy) to allow calls from "only people from my contacts can call" which I recommend you set. Also set the "only people from my Contact can start IM".
This will stop all and sundry from being able to contact you unless you've given them permission.
Thanks John - much appreciated!
A simpler answeris to have two phones.
Use one for your private contacts and the other forgeneral use. After all you can get a mobile for 6 ix cornflake packet tops and a poem saying how good they are.
for about 15quid you can buy a twin sim pack that is a new back for your phone and holds 2 sims switching between the 2 is easy. Try carphone warehouse thats where i got mine from.
