Said my bit earlier on .............. and have tried to stay out ....... but I can't !!!
Newbies are told to post on the forums if they want to go to a Munch !!!
They are asked how many posts they have made ?? and sometimes told you haven't made enough......... so you can't come !!!! check the munch threads and u will see this to be correct !
So people are actively encouraged to post any old drivel just to make a post !
Having said that ............. their drivel could be funny drivel to some of us !!
Sarg .......... I have interracted with you on a number of posts ranging from the London bombings to Holiday leave request forms !!............ one subject very serious and the other a total load of bollocks !!! At the time both of them gave me the opportunity to discuss what I wanted to discuss on that day.......
Please dont take our choices away ............. somedays I want to be serious other days I need to be daft !!!
And I feel so strongly that you have no right to decide what is crap and shouldn't be read by me ! If it breaks the rules take it off............. if it doesnt break the rules......... leave it alone !!!
Last point ................ if you lock a thread coz it breaks the rules or is inapproriate in some way............. why is it left for everyone to see ?.................. move it .............. delete it ....... its taking up space that a better thread could occupy !!!
I will definately shut up now !!!

I think that the forum is representative of life in general. Although it is designed to focus on the swinging lifestyle, the abundance of additional material suggests that sex is being discussed enough. Other topics are there appropriately and in proportion to the main subject of rumpy pumpy.

I don't think anyone's complaining about other topics per se. The way I read it, what's getting people down is material better suited to the chatroom or PM and posts that are just posted for the sake of posting. You and I can avoid some of that by ignoring anything started by those we regard as the culprits, at the cost of missing out on any good stuff that's mixed in with it, but the mods don't even have that choice.
Blimey is this discussion still going on?!?
Sgt Bilko ............... U sexy little chicken,
How clever you are !!!
Have you seen how many views and replies have been made to your original post ?
Surely ............. this only goes to prove my point !!! We respond to good and interesting posts and ignore the ones that are not so good or interesting !!!
Do we really need more policing than that ??? ............. I think not ! lol

So anyway, have the mods had an easier day?
Take a look at this little guy.

To me he is rolling sh*t
To him its his dinner
The morality in this is one creatures Sh*t is another creatures FOOD.
I'm not sure whether a cooling off period for newbies (such as myself) would necessarily be the most successful solution, as when the cooling off period ends, the newbie could post the exact same thing as if there hadn't been a cooling off period, which could be a good post or a crap post.
To be fair though, its not just newbies that are capable of posting crap.
Can't we all just get along? :yinyang:
"All we are saying is give peas a chance" (preferably mushy) :P
Well guys I've got congratulate you. This is the third thread I've opened in as many days and had to go back to check the date to see if it was an old thread that had been bumped. We do seem to like going round in circles here.
I must admit I do come here daily, but I only read the occasional post now. I don't post anywhere near as much as I did do. Why? Well three reasons really;
1) I'm not a newbie anymore and the threads that people who are new to this place (or new to forums in general) post while trying to be original, I've probably seen a dozen times in one form or another.
2) I find the site is boring. I don't mean that in a nasty way. It probably has a lot to do with #1, but it's also down to a lot of the people that I used to talk to leaving the forum for whatever reason.
3) The site's no longer all new and shiney, so I don't feel the need to bounce round from thread to thread posting because it's all new and exciting.
I think the problem is that some of us are trying to hark back to the "Golden days"
when we could find something funny and we all knew each others sense of humour. When the site was smaller. Maybe that's at the heart of the problem? The site's a victim of it's own success? dunno
That brings me on to cliques (for the 4th time this year IIRC).
Newbies, you're newbies. GET OVER IT FFS!
If you don't get a joke, ask. You're not going to get banned for asking "what was that about?" You never know it may lead you to a thread that inspires you and wins you a place in our hearts rather than you leaving feeling like a disgruntled outsider.
Whatever I doubt very much that the place will return to how it was no matter what systems are implemented.
I'm sure the mods at one point start to lock or delete all the posts they thought were crap? Didn't that get complaints as well?
I guess this is just one of those places where everyone gets into a heated debate and nothing seems to change (I suspect there's some resistance to try anything new after the "verification" incident).
Whatever happens I'll still keep looking in and reading threads that grab my attention or that are posted by people I know will produce a thread that will interest me.
I'll also keep hijacking threads as I see fit and try to take them somewhere more lighthearted and enjoyable (if only for the "clique" if nobody else). If anyone doesn't like it then I suggest you try and find a mod who will ban me. :rude:
With a thread this long it is almost impossible to say something that isn't inferred in anothers post elsewhere, but I would like to say that this is still the most entertaining site I've found.
I would offer the view that with the rapid growth in membership since I joined and the rapid growth in actual posters, there comes an ineviatable growth in the posting for postings sake. Now I suspect that this is with a lot of people initially, as they post, because there is this peculiar fear that, 'if I don't post, people will forget me and I will never establish myself' type, thingy, going on. It's only when you are established and therefore more comfortable with things that you realise that ....'hey if I go away for a few days, I can just get back into it, no problem'. This is a pattern that I've identified in myself and I think I've seen it in others, that initial frenzy of posting to get known / established, then a realisation that it aint the end of the world if you don't make a post now and again, I think it was always there, but as the number of posters goes up it just becomes more recognisable.
The issue of what makes a good thread or a good post is so much more difficult to define, as far as I'm concerned this is a good thread, that contains good posts, but you can bet your life others are glancing through it and thinking .....'what a load of shite'....I've also seen posts that contain little more than a couple of words, but that actually sit perfectly within the thread or against the previous post. It really is a ' one mans meat is another mans poison' thing.
Just like the sarge and like a few others right now, I get pissed off with all sorts a things. As someone else has mentioned, I find the GFZ to be duller than dishwater, but there are others that get a cart load of fun out of it so the best thing for me, is to stay out of it, which I do, who am I to barge through the door and tell them it's crap. What I can do, is perhaps post something elsewhere that might just get things moving along a bit in the direction that I enjoy.
I'd love for it to be like I thought it was, trouble is I'm not sure if it was, how I think it was, or wether I was carried away on exuberence and that now I have lost that edge and tingle of excitment that had me posting like a mad fool. Whatever, I still like it more than I loathe it and continue to meet some bloody good people because of it and hope to christ that people that have given me endless entertainment and caused me to swear, think, rage and weep stick with it.
The truth of the matter is that the more people that pass over the door, the more ragged the mat gets.
Well as a relative newbie on here myself ( but not on the net lol , i've been online since before the net escaped from the US Military posting on uni bulletin boards waaay back in 1985-86 on a ZX Spectrum ..... ) can I make just one suggestion.
When someone applies to join they should have their initial password randomly generated and Email'd to them. At the very top of the Email should be "Please read this AUP statement carefully as activation of your membership signifies agreement to its terms" , list the AUP ( Mark as da BIG Boss you can change the AUP to point out the general rules for which posts are likely to be ok and which ones are likely to annoy EG : penis size , etc ) and put the password below it.
Now if someone that gets this Email then goes on to post against the AUP then it should be ONE warning only and a reminder to read and digest the AUP then if they do it again ban their account ( with more and more people being on broadband then their IP should remain static so its simple enough to ban an IP address so they cannot get back in ).
Altho i've only been on here since the middle of December last year I too have started to notice that I find a lot of posts I feel unable to reply to. Nothing unusual for me I have to admit since if I feel i've nothing substantive to add to a thread i'll not post at all rather than post for posting's sakes. I can see why people post loads of times , munch meetings all require you to be known about after all , but people can at least try to let us get to know them a bit better since if your only posting rubbish on the boards are you really going to be invited to a munch ???? somehow I doubt it lol.
Davie ( wearing his asbesto's kilt just in case lol )
doh .... off we go again...... as said above - this is now a very long post - and some good suggestions have been made.
I once got hung drawn and quartered for speaking out of turn and criticising - and yes - in some ways if you don't like it - then don't come in!
But I would like to make one point for consideration;
There are a massive number of members and posters yet only three areas of the forum! I've made the suggestion before but in view of the recent posts and strength of feeling coming out maybe now would be a good time to expand the forums to creat a forum for 'swing related talk' specifially, funnies etc specifically, and finally the 'Off Topic' i.e. nowt to do with swinging area? Perhaps then at least the people who want to post funnies etc, wildly off topic questions / observations can go there?
In reality currently we have an area for dogging , a meeting up area and then an anything goes area which in its very title and subeading - which clearly says general discussion and chit chat - where it seems that if people post too much chit caht then they get locked - which i guess is a bit of a contradiction?
It seems clear that with over 24000 members we would benefit from more than three forums?
It bothers me that a forum that should be friendly will evolve into a messy place where people are just sniping at each other - which naturally cannot be described as a fun place to be!
I just hope that we can rid ourselves of the ill feeling and go forward with some of the positive suggestions!
There...... lol biggrin

Well good idea if Mark can spare the bandwidth and storage space then sure a few more forums would make life easier :
here's my thoughts
1) Lets Meet Up
2) Dogging
3) Swinging
4) Munches
5) Humour
6) Off Topic , say wot ya like
As I said above all depends on whether Mark feels that the site can spare the bandwidth and the storage space , as well as needing a few more Moderators to check out the new forums.

Good Choices Davie!
I’ve got a better idea – a league system!
You start off in Division 3 and every week the mods promote 3 up to the next division based on wit, intelligence etc, obviously 3 have to get relegated as well.
Eventually you can work your way up to the Premier league!
Just think, like referees, you would have Division 1, 2, 3 and Premier league Mods!
Think it through, it would work! Us regulars wouldn’t have to mix with commoner newbies until they had proved themselves worthy, and the newbies would be battling with each other to impress the mods!

Enough said on that.
Why was Godwins Law not involked on this thread for the use of a dictators full name (bushwakers post) and yet yesterday a post was locked for just the one word (Adolf) in the "National ID Card" thread.
What is Good for the Goose is good for the Gander.

I can answer that one Fred... cos I wasn't here. I was at work!! And, now I have read the offending - and offensive - post I am leaving it open. The post was so bloody stupid, and so far ranging in it's stupidity that it's worth leaving as a warning to others about being offensive.
In fact I had to check to see if the person involved was still a member.. cos if Mark said it was insulting and offensive then I suspected a banning had happened.
If you want to discuss it further then please do so in PM as I don't want to hijack this thread as it's very illuminating and informative.

I hereby give notice that I (and hopefully the other Mods) will no longer tolerate shite threads or shite posts in the Cafe.
I have had enough!!!! I used to love this place and the people within it. Now I can barely stand moderating it, and if something isn't done soon this site will become as mundane and boring as all the other forums on the internet.
What has made this place so much better than all the others has been the mix of swinging, sex, funny and interesting posts/ threads from the members. Recently it has become a site where anyone can post anything about anything they want, whether the subject be interesting to most people or not.
NO MORE!! I am taking it upon myself to improve the standard of contributions here. I am so fed up of the standards now that I will stand or fall by that decision. I will either make this a better place or if you the members feel I am wrong, then I will leave, letting you decide what should or should not be allowed in here.
I hope to have your support, because this place is your place, and someone has to act on your behalf, but if I am wrong, and you tell me I am wrong, then I will accept that and leave you to the forum that you desire.

Well you can count me in Sarge!!! :bounce: passionkiss
I don't want to spoil people fun I really don't ....... but I sure don't want my fun on here ruined by so much utter tosh!!!
I don't want to have to decide what is crap and what is good - that's impossible!!! But by the same token I don't want to read pages of inane conversation that should be in PM, just in case a good 'on topic' post has got caught in the middle of it. Ideally I would split the conversation off and shove it in the 'Bin' - that way everyone can carry on, the on topic or thread participants (if it's hijacked) can carry on - and the 2 or 3 way conversations (that really should be in PM or chatroom) can also carry on - everyones happy?
Any thread that does nothing more than "tell me how great/lovely/brilliant I am" - why do people need telling that??? dunno If it's something major then fair and well, but if it's celebrating nothing more than something like a new avatar .......... then come on! give me a break, I have better things to do than massage peoples egos that I've never met before!!! (along with 24000 others)
The thread where the title has the whole question in and the post that says "what do you think", they don't even bother to answer their own question themsleves!!!! Why should others make the effort to keep them entertained?
Sorry, ranting here lol - but just want to say that I don't want to judge what is a crap thread and what is a good one ........ just move the threads/posts that do not contribute to the community at all. It's not a chatroom!! You're talking to 24000 odd members, how many of them are seriously gonna be interested in the fact that a library van parked outside your neighbours house for two minutes longer than they did last week??? evil These sorts of threads can still exist - just not at the top of the Cafe!!

Here here Sarge,
I subscribe to the "If you got nothing interesting to say then SHUT UP" way of talking hehehehe

Hiya Easy kiss
I think that Easy just about summed it up for me as well.... I often go back and read old threads that had me crying with laughter, and the thing that stands out the most is how the majority of those posters are no longer posting for what ever reason.... Most of the threads weren't swinging related but they were entertaining and well written...
I dont post as much as I used to purely because there isn't much that really interests me these days....
I'm with you on this one Sarge

I just want to make one point!
But what's the point?
I agree that it is hard to find a thread worth reading, never mind responding to. I have never been a big poster but have usually read a lot of the threads. I can now skip 50% of page 1 at least.
I agree that the crapness of posts is subjective, but there seem to be an awfully large number of people posting at a very high average-per-day rate. This is not just newbies but many regulars too. I find it difficult to believe that many people can genuinely find something worthwhile to add to the boards at an average of 10 posts per day. confused
Many of those posts contribute to the clogging of the boards. Many people have suggested that self moderation rather than mod censorship is the right way forward. Self censorship does happen if you look at people's posting histories, but it is a slow process and is overwhelmed by the massive influx of new members who make the 'dash to reach 1000 now look at me'. rolleyes
Maybe we should all be issued with a credit note for X posts per annum. Once you have used your credit limit you are deactivated until the next posting year. Use your credit limit in the first 3 months and you spend the next 9 months just reading. lol This does not introduce censorship, since you can still post in the same manner as now, but it may encourage a more thoughtful posting style and discourage some of the trivial 'post for posting sake'.
Post deleted by author because I think I misunderstood HappyCats sense of humour.
For which I apologise.
Sorry.
Flippin' 'eck, I only went out fer a couple of hours tonight and look at this lot.
Blonde has got a strong argument. And I honestly think that a 'Shit Bin' idea will therefore cause so much aggro. We'll have flouncing all over the place and maybe some mods resigning. It will really cause trouble. Think of the last time the mods adopted a zap 'em if they're crap policy - most of us agreed but it was pain and grief.
We really ought to try less contentious ways of limiting the crap (the length of this thread clearly signifies we've got to do something). I'm not going to repeat my suggestion - otherwise someone will accuse me of broken record crap. But there's an obvious source of the shit stuff and it can be curbed.

OMG!!! You actually did delete my post. Two of them!
:P :P
bastard.
Ohohoh! I have a constructive idea
Instead of having a 'shit bin' how about doing it the other way around? Threads which reach X amount of pages, thus reflecting they are decent topics which interest people, be put in a 'commendation' room? This way people won't become so offended if their threads are removed to a 'shit bin' and it might encourage people to try to post worthier topics?
and I'd know which forum to bother looking at.

(I've never said anything on here ,but, If you will permit a tongue-in- cheek observation from an impartial and chronically uninvolved observer on the sidelines? .......)
The town where I lived
Was swarming with rats
The Council decided
The need was for cats
They ferried them in
In lorries and vans
And all the good people
Approved of the plans
The streets were soon ratless
The people all cheered
But wondered a little
As kittens appeared
The noise was quite awful
So sleepless and tired
The Council decided
That dogs were required
So out of the kennels
The hounds were released
‘At last’, said the Council
We might get some peace.
But as they retired
And turned off their lights
A howling got started
That lasted six nights
‘Enough!’, said the Council,
‘The soft stuff is done
Employ from this instant
A man with a
And duly he came
With rifle and slugs
Proceeding to turn
The Afghans to rugs.
Retrieved the retrievers
And damned the Dalmations
Buggered the Boxers
And axed the Alsatians
And when it was done
In a voice very gruff
He said to the Council:
‘You’ve not paid enough’
And such was his anger
They muttered a prayer
And splattered their breeches
When he blasted the Mayor.
And day after day
He roamed unopposed
‘We’ll have to hire killers’
The Council supposed.
And early one morning
The gunmen arrived
And started a war
That no one survived.
Except for one fellow-
Town crier by trade-
Who opened his eyes
And carnage surveyed.
His joy at still living
Became somewhat less:
He’d spotted the rats
Enjoying the mess.
And clanging his bell
He pledged his adherence
To a new Council plan
Of non- interference.
