Just to clarify my point of view.
I havent suggested the banning of threads, the deletion of threads or people to stop posting on certain subjects.
I have made 3 suggestions -
1. A little self editing/control - myself included
2. Better titling of threads to give people the option to ignore
3. A grouping together of certain thread types e.g welcome,help etc into one area where people can visit as they please
I also suggested a league system, but that was light hearted bollocks lol

That's a killer argument with which I completely agree. I don't want the mods to presume to disallow anything that isn't already disallowed by the AUP, but I do think they should have the means to exercise some judgement over what's likely to irritate people pointlessly and put it somewhere where we can enter at our own risk. wink

We decide ourselves by not answering............ the thread moves down the page until it hits page 2 !!!

Have just read this thread again ................. from start to finish !
And want to say I am simply putting my opinion in black and white ...........(red and pink most of the time!)
I am not attacking how the site is run or moderated or operated ! Even when someone I know is still "mod-ing" at 2 am when I want to go to bed !!!!!
The diversity of the threads in the forum is a big part of what makes it interesting........
Sometimes I want to read interesting and intelligent threads and other times I want a giggle and like the rubbishy daft pointless threads ............. so please please please leave us with the freedom we have to do what we want, when we want ?

That's the problem, it doesn't slip off page one, it stays there right at the top until the couple of people posting in it have gone offline, sometimes several hours later.
If it was just the odd thread that was like it then all fair and well, but it's an increasing number of threads. And don't get me wrong, this isn't a phenomenon unique to certain people, we have ALL done it!
So long as everyone is able to and can join in with a thread, then leave it in the Cafe - but if it's a restricted thread, reduced to a couple of people, then just budge it off the Cafe and into somewhere else. The thread will still be on page one, still at the top of page one - just in a different Forum.
And vice versa, if it starts off as a restricted thread, but ends up widening its reach, then move it to the Cafe.
This ain't gonna happen is it?

..if I invite someone to my house I do so in the knowledge that there is a chance they or their unknown partner/offspring might bore me to death or do something offensive..if it were just that they were boring I wouldn't be so rude as to ask them to go to another room!! Maybe lock them in the dungeon or piss in their dinner might be appropriate, but I certainly wouldn't ask them back again!
Unlike my own domain, boring posts (I think we're talking boring, rather than offensive here??) on a website, can just be ignored until they slip off the front page and die a miserable, slow death..it's not like boring posters are putting their feet up in your living room! :rotflmao:

I so hope it does Misscheif... Look peeps apart from my previous round up post of ideas there are some fundimentals here:
If it breaks the AUP, Mark IS the AUP... If he is getting tired of the threads there is a problem! He could decide to close the cafe altogether, only have photo adds, it is his site after all. (ok I scaremongering, but the point is it is his site)
On a simpler note the mods, Mark, and a lot of members WANT the cafe to be the place for the more popular thread. What is popular, somthing that catches peoples eyes and they start responding to. If a lot of people are involved it stays, if 2 people it goes... Its not so much content as relevance to the day...
When it goes it is only in the other forum, the people can still chat in it to their hearts content. We are just allowing the mods to do some spam filtering for us. If you don't like the way they did it, simply check both forums, whats the big issue???
Our site owner and mods have asked for our help, are we really going to turn them down and bicker over this?

I understand the initial point but fail to see the point in some of the debate. People can only post what is within their capability, intellectual capacity, communication skills level, social skills ability, experience of life and (most importantly) their head at the time. Even with the sharpest wit and the most eloquent of literary skills - it is difficult to generate something that hasnâ€™t already been said.
There will always be crap!
Annoying it may be, but the more popular a site becomes â€“ the more arseholes come along and arseholes have one purpose â€¦ they release crap.
Personally I find some of the posts where people are almost desperately trying to sound â€˜deep and meaningfulâ€™ rather annoying or at least tedious. I often wonder, which horoscope or proverb of the day (those little messages you get on desk calendars) they have read today.
I shall summaries this babble:
There is nothing you can do about the standard of crap â€“ as long as the crap is within the rules.

Agreed, see above. But if you've got a couple or 3 people on here for a long stretch of time, the Cafe is going to be flooded with just their posts. They're having a laugh, bluddy enjoying themselves, fair play to em, bring it on ........... but it is extremely annoying for people that come on later on and see nothing more than a few people having conversations. No not restricted to one thread, it's always in every thread and every other post - even worse it's the same conversations, just different faces.
The thing is, this behaviour isn't restricted to certain people - we've ALL done it!! Sometimes you're having a blast and just dont realise it's changed to a 2/3 way conversation until quite late......... If it can get split off and shoved in a little corner somewhere, then you can carry on - it's just not at the top of the Cafe that's all, nowt more, not a discipline thing, just moved dunno

I think the suggestion is to put shite posts in a shite bin ,if someone can define what a shite post is, but seeing as thats a bit difficult because it's subjective. There might be a commendation bucket where the commended ones go, but thats a bit difficult cos it's subjective. It's all a bit cloudy tune, but don't you bother yerself cos I've asked for yours to be tagged onto the 'big brother thread' That gives us the advantage of finding them easily if we like your posts and knowing that it's pissed you off if we don't.

having read throu this....I quite like the idea of a shite forum. Not wanting to rack over old ground but we did once have a great little thread in Dogging section..coz thats what it statred as...and we had I would say 10 or 12 regular contribitors....we did talk shit...but we didn't half enjoy it....and I know alot of newbies found it easier joining in on that thread..as it was total shit..than perhaps the more highbrow topics. When we lost it..left quite a few of us a little lost really....and lost a couple of good old friends as well. So yes I vote in favour of a shite forum....where people can post drivel.....I think I can feel at home in there already !!!

Actually, have to say.... since the Sarge's admirable rant, there DO seem to be rather fewer posts that, when opened, contain such interesting notions as Pray For My Sick Kitty, I'm Eating A Nice Fried Egg, What Can You See Out Of Your Window, and Guess What I've Got In My Handbag.
I know the guidance on the Cafe says "for posts not related to Meetings or Dogging".... but one might hope they would bear at least some relation to nookie. Well done Sarge, I say. Stout Feller.
