Dave_Notts's is having trouble with his passport.
He lost his old passport and applied for a new passport nearly 3 weeks ago. The problem being is that they have to delve into their archives in order to look at his old passport before issuing a new one.
He has asked to pay extra in order for this matter to be resolved quickly, but apparently it is down to the enquiry clerk to find the old one.
We are getting desperate as well are supposed to be going on holiday on Wednesday!!
Does anyone work at the Liverpool Passport Office that could offer any help?
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Alex
Same thing happend to me some years ago but it was easey for me to just go to the passport office and with two forms of id and my paper work for my new one and with in 40 mins i had my new passport .Good luck oh hi this is my first post great site biggrin
i think your best bet is going to the issueing passport office
ring them up first and ask what they want you to bring
might be a long long wait but if you get your passport its worth it
hope all go's well
keep my fingers crossed for you
God u must be out of your mind worrying, i guess the only thing u can do as red said, is ring them up and see if theres anything you can do , and if it would be worth making the journey to collect it.
Good luck and gope you get it sorted

After he rang the passport office, they told him that going down to the passport office in person is not going to hurry his application along xxx
Thats absolute rubbish.
ask to speak to a manger and inform them that they have had 3 weeks to send the passport.
explain that you are leaving the country on wednesday.
start being forceful in the end they will have to do something!!!

DONT DO THIS! They are with in their rights to ask for details on the death and check with the clerk of the place where the death was registered. If they do and you are found out it is £1,000 penalty
You can get a passport in 48 hours and there is an office in Liverpool. All details can be found at : or
But you will have to go to the office - good luck smile
I have had to sort out last minute complications over my and a child's passport twice in the past couple of years.
BevnTony's advice to go to an issuing office in person is essential.
On each occasion I have gone to the London Office in person and, once you actually reach the counter, have found them to be very sympathetic. I have been able to return to collect the passport at the end of the day - which means you need to get there early in order to give them time to process things. It is advisable to take evidence of your travel dates in order to prove that your case is urgent.

The Passport Office left Petty France years ago - it's next to Victoria Station!
northlondon john
did not realise that its moved 1/2 mile down the road
good fella
I have known several people that have gone to the office in Liverpool and received their passports the same day, having queued for ages first. confused :? :?
Yep you can definitely get one the same day but you must make an appointment. Don't just turn up.
Dave_Nott's phoned them again late this afternoon and as yet, they are still awaiting a reply from the archive office.
Until they receive a note from the archive office to make sure he is who he said he is (even though he has offered every type of identification known to man), they will not processes his passport application.
He has to give them a ring in the morning?
I will post in the morning and inform of the update.
I really hope you get this sorted out.
It certainly used to be that if you went to the old London office in Petty France you could get a passport within one day - that is how I did it!
The daft thing is, I can go to the embassy/consulate in the Netherlands and get a new passport in 24 hours - that is what I am doing just now.
You are entitled to have two passports and will get a second one if you have a letter from an employer. Maybe this is a way forward to getting a new passport for you?

Spoke to Dave earlier Alex......but you already know that cos you rang him while I was there......lol
I've advised him to babysit James (and the dogs) for the week and let me go with you instead.....lol
Seriously though...........I had a problem when I applied for one for me and James...(under the old system.....where you could put your child on your passport too)........I was on the phone to them and they weren't very helpful..........until I mentioned that I would be involving my MP if they didn't sort it out.
After a "Just one moment sir, let me just have a word with a manager" they promised to have the passport to me within 48 hours.
It duly arrived the following day....a grand total of 23 hours after me ringing them.
I really do hope it gets sorted out sweetheart. I know how much you both need the holiday.

Just to let you know that Dave_Nott's rang again this morning and still no joy
Liverpool office will not under any circumstances phone the London archive office and ask them to look for his old passport as they "do not want to put undue pressure on them". Liverpool doesn't even know if London has even starting looking for his old passport.
The advice from Liverpool to Dave_Notts is "tough, you shouldn't have booked a holiday without your passport" and "cross your finger and it may be sorted in time".
Dave_Nott's has phoned to speak to his local MP to see if they can influence the situation in anyway.
I phoned the London Passport office myself and they would not connect me to the archive office.
Very sad, very depressed Teesside sad
I had a similar problem a few years ago I went to the Liverpool passport office and they wanted to see proof of travel (plus all the usual ID), I explained my reasons for needing a passport the same day and it worked by in the afternoon I was sat in a pub drinking a pint and admiring the photo on my new passport

Take it, it wasn't the one in your avatar. then? rotflmao
Joke! Joke!
Sorry, I haven't any advice to offer to Alex and Dave. I really hope this gets sorted. Don't give up hope, fingers crossed for you xx
I've noticed the passport company is just f*cking around with peoples passport applications. The same thing happened to us a couple of months back. We were waiting for our passport for 3 months! evil
All they could offer us to do was go down to the London office (I don't know why we couldn't go to the liverpool one) and pay a substantial ammount to get it done that day. If we did that we wouldn't of had any spending money on the holiday so we just cancelled everything and resented the firm ever since.
You can get your passport at shorter notice but you will more than likely have to pay for it. If it is for business then you can get it rebated and done quicker. Get your manager/director to confirm it with them that it is an urgent business meeting that you have to be on and only you can go. Might help, then again the way they are treating you I wouldn't bet on it.
I phoned the passport office all morning..............begging....pleading.....offering more money......no joy.
They phoned at 2:20 and said that the archive clerk will not be able to find it in time and I should make arrangements to cancel the holiday.
Slightly upset at this point. So in a last ditch effort.......I rang my local MP......I was surprised that he was in never mind that he would look into it.
Got a phone call from passport office at 3:30. The old passport has just been found and I can pick my new one up from Liverpool in the morning. The MP phoned London and got their finger out and it was sorted in an hour. Yet they had me hanging on all week. If they had told us on Monday, we could have made alternative arrangements. They even told me on Thurday morning that it was being printed. I am so glad that I rechecked yesterday afternoon.
Thank you all for your advice.
