Does anyone have any tried and tested diets that actually work. I play football for a club one below the conference and have just come back from a bad shoulder injury. I had three operations. i put on about a stomes in weight, dont get me wrong i know im not fat in anyway but i am struggling to loose the few extra pound i put on. i weight 12.2 but should weigh roughly 11.5. does anyone know any quick lose diet plans exept cutting my throut.
A DEPRESSED DAVE!
I give fitness and nutritional advice to the rugby team I work for and you can't loose weight properly from diet alone, you need the correct type of fat burning exercise, cardio at fat burning intensities, combined with weights training.
The jist is, if you eat a fairly balanced diet, which is higher in proteins and, lower in refined/processed carbohydrates, with plenty of fresh fruit and veg, you can't go far wrong.
Happy to give proper advice if you pm, but can';t be bothered to write out everything here!
lazy bitch! lol xx
bread and water for about...............ooooooh.....four months ........that should do it
Aaaaaggggghhhhhh the D word
:scared: bolt

I tried going vegitarian. The theroey is that the body can dispose of vegatable material more easily than animal fats. I think that's cos we're made of animal fats???
Anyway the weight fell off but I think this is mainly down to the quality of my diet improve when I stopped buying meat pies in the shop. biggrin :D
Get food poisioning for a week, that should do it
lol

There are plenty of get-thin-quick diet plans around Dave but none of them are any good because as soon as you start to eat properly again, it all goes back on.
Join Weightwatchers ( online if you don't want to go to meetings ) They're one of the best around.
If you want to go it alone then try these tips:
No carbs after 8pm
Eat breakfast EVERY morning. Brekkie kick starts your metabolism so it really is important.
No snacking unless you choose good snacks. Try things like Snackajacks
Buy Weightwatchers magazine and get some tips from there.
Limit your alcohol intake - empty calories
If you want a cream cake or bar of choc then have one. Just give yourself a treat ONCE a week.
Watch the low fat stuff, it's loaded with sugar
Hope this helps

okay I understand the point about a good breakfast .....but what constitutes a good breakfast?

cereal ( not sugar coated ) with skimmed or semi milk
fruit juice
grilled bacon, scrambled eggs and tomatoes
porridge is excellent as it fills you up and releases energy slowly through the morning
bananas
any of the above ( but not all, ya greedy sod :giggle: )
I used this and lost 3 stone in 9 months.
Breakfast every day. (not sweet stuff though)
As much fruit and veg (unprocessed) as you like.
(Stir fries, salads and soups)
A bit of good quality protien with lunch and tea - eg tuna, ham, good cheese, or even a steak.
No sweets, cakes, ice-cream - you get the idea.
A baked potato, some good bread, rice or pasta with one of your meals - none with the other.
Yogurts are good puds.
Pick at salad or cut up veg whenever you feel the need.
It worked a treat. Add some sweaty/out of breath type excercise and you will be fit as a flea in a few weeks.
Hope whatever you use works for you.
Oh and don't forget - love yourself. :rose:
I tend to put on weight when I'm out of work and spend more time dreaming up poncy meals and drinking alcohol.
Once I'm back on the job, I'm active and need to bend and stretch. So I have lunch in the local cafe, not a fry up breakfast, but a good old fashioned meat and 2 veg type. Then something lighter in the evening. Stay off the drink as much as possible.

Ive been trying to lose weight for what seems an eternity. The last time I managed to get it off was by constant exercise, unfortunatlety time has caught up with me, and because I cant do what I could 10 years ago, I feel deflated.
Recently I was given some pills to try, now Im aware that this probably isnt the best strategy, and that dieting comes in 2 parts, getting the weight off, and then keeping it off.
Ive lost just over a stone in 6 weeks, and its amazing how that affects your personality, as I live alone, and shop for myself, the key for me here, was to avoid buying stuff that would be gone pretty quickly. Ive replaced bread with organic breads, and have a range of breakfast cereals. The pills are working to suppress the appetite, and Im careful to eat at the same time each day. What keeps me motivated, that Im seeing a lot of my friends in October/November and I want to shock them, as they have only known me as a big guy.
I work in a bit of a pressure cooker environment, were verbal abuse by our clientelle is quite the norm. Last week I was called fatty, which tickled me. Its amazing were you can get encouragement from, and what can spur you on.
I sympathise entirely with anyone who struggles with their weight.
Best of luck
Start your own business, in the early days you can't aford food, a bit further down the road you don't have time for food, by the time you are to old for 'sweaty' sports you have both the time and the money.

Huh? Why's that bad for you?
David, doesn't your club have an advisor of some sort?
Would have thought they'd have someone.

Can't type. Not bad for you , I think
K, easy advice.
1: It requires consistent change, not just a fad.
2: You will need to put in some work
3: The last few pounds are always the hardest
4: You may need to eat MORE often!
That said, basic formula is this:
Cut down on fats and carbs, drop your calorie intake to aroun 3/4 that you need for the day (for dropping, not long term) and excercise daily.
The type of excercise you need is often referred to as "fat burning", that means working at an intensity that brings your heart rate to 65% of its maximum. Depending on how fit you are, the work required to achieve this varies - it may be a brisk walk, it may be a run.
To do the maths above, take your age away from 220, then work out 65% of that. So for example in my case 220-32=188, 65% of 188 = 122.2 . I therefore try and keep my heart in the 120-125 beats per minute range while fat burning, which is currently a healthy jog or steady swim. It is very useful to have a pulse reader for this sort of malarky.
You will need to do some form of excercise that keeps you at that level for at least 30 minutes to make it worthwhile, I would suggest 45-1hour. How often you do it is up to you, anywhere from once every two days to six out of seven, make sure you have at least one day a week rest though.
You will find that if you keep the excercise consistent, you'll get fitter and need to "raise the bar" in order to lose more fat, but chances are as you reach that stage you will have already lost significant amount, and you will find the excercise easier!
As far as eating more often goes, that does NOT mean eating more "meals". I would suggest three meals a day, and eating fruit in intervals between the meals (an apple or a couple of satsumas will keep yer metabolism going between meals).
Once you've lost the fat, you have to keep the diet healthy, and maintain some level of excercise, or it will simply re-appear.
There is no magic formula, it's not a secret, it's simply down to the right mindset and consistency.
Whatever you do IGNORE Mr Aitkins....the fella died before his time of heart disease!
Hope that helps smile

It's very important to have those empty calorie treats... the body needs fat!
Just don't have the treat on the the same day each week!
You have to keep the body metabolism on it's toes!
