sorry to hear about ur experience, sometimes things do genuinly come up so that people have to cancel, but ur right, a phone call (or even a text message) does not cost much time or money, to be honest i think it just comes down to common courtesy and if these people can't be bothered to let u know that they can make it, ur better off not meeting them anyway!
there are people like this who think its acceptable to let people down last minute (or not even tell them at all) in all walks of life. at the end of the day these people aren't worth getting to know u! don't take it to heart........ur better than that!

hi mike....it also happens the other way too........me and the better half made arrangements to meet a single guy and we were let chatted and webcammed a few times before and he even messaged us the night before to confirm the time/place sat there for over an hour with no show. we messgaed him after but have never heard from him since....charming! but we have had successful meets since with other people so dont be put off, it happens to us all.
Its all good fun and what we find makes swinging a little more exciting wondering if the people your going to meet show up or not

Just think of the time you have saved by not driving to meet them, getting there and then having to say thanks but no thanks and then driving home,
TIme now then to spend in SH chatting and meeting all the great friends you making here
with all that time you would have wasted.
