Complain like hell.........if you pay for something then you are entitled to get what you pay for
I took my son to London as a birthday treat a few years ago and we went off to Mme Tusseauds. We queued for 1 1/2 hours just to get as far as the till, it cost me £35 for just me and him ( he was 12 at the time ) to get in and the place was so crowded, you couldn't see all the exhibits let alone take photos. By the time we'd got as far as the Chamber Of Horrors, we were both feeling very claustrophobic and hot, we decided to leave. Son was understandably very disappointed so I emailed them when I got home and complained.
Was it the one linked to the Planatarium in Baker Street, I went there last year principally to visit the planatarium, we queued for 45 mins and when we got there, you had to buy a ticket for whole exhibit not just planatarium and it was over 75 quid, what a rip off............I complained about only wanting to visit planatarium then after nothing voted with my feet.
The problem with London is the staff who work in most of these venues don't care, and it's almost impossible to get a level of service with people who simply don't give a rats ass.
The thing is it's very rarely the fault of the person you're complaining to, so if you must complain - do it nicely, you'd be amazed how much further it gets you.

Well that depends who you are complaining to, but for example if you are in a restaurant and the food was crap don't shout at the waitress, its not her fault and she can do nothing to change the situation, but if you are speaking to the manager............then have fun...........
But in principle I agree 100%
I complained the other week about the poor service we received while we were eating out. Got an apolgy letter and a 20 pound refund voucher back. In a way glad we did, cos we found a better place to use the vouchers in. lol

I took my car to a main dealer for a service, MOT and a few repairs. Suffice to say when I went to collect it, so many things hadn't been done I was not a happy teddy bear. I asked to speak to the General Manager and was told he wasn't in, but would definitely be in the next day. The next day I went in with a two page letter of complaint for him, outlining everything that had gone wrong, the way I was treated and the problems it had caused me. On arriving at reception I was told the General Manager was NOT in that day!! so yet another reason to complain! I then asked to speak to one of their senior managers. They showed me into his office, I passed him the letter, then said nothing.
He read through the letter, put it down, admitted straight away it was well below expected levels and they would put everything right for me. As they would need my car for some time he said I could borrow one of theirs - "Would an 'S' type be ok?" Trying not to get too excited as he gave me an S type Jag, I just said, Yes, that would be fine!!
The next day the general manager rang me to make sure I was happy with the car and said I could keep it for as long as they had my car, but wouldn't be rushing to fix it since I had their car.
I had it for about 3 weeks, which was absolutely brilliant, then when I got mine back they knocked off several hundred pounds off the bill!!
so yes, definitely worth complaining if you don't get the service you require, but make sure you do it in the right way. lol

ok.... ill do it pro bono.......... u twisted my arm
there was a programe on the bbc last night about the service in resturants , it was very revealling. Most places they visited with the secret camera failed to deliver any thing that resembled good service.
The one thing that that stood out for me was the fact that on the bill it states service charge included of whatever percent they have ( 10% to 15% is the norm ). If your not happy you have the right to deduct this from the bill they give you. Will remember that for next time !
Had a great example of the British 'unable to camplain' disease.
I was at a local garden center today. They were a bit understaffed (lunchtime) with just one poor guy on the till. A woman joined the queue behind me and immediatelystarted moaning - loudly enough for the guy at the till to hear - to her husband about the appalling service, the need to queue, the bad management 'if we have to queue like this in Lanzerote I'm not going ' (I'm not joking - she actually said this) She obviously had no intention of addressing the staff directly.
A couple of minutes of this was enough - so Foxylady has to have her say (my friend was heading for the door as soon as he saw me turn round).
"Either make a formal complaint or shut up. Don't just stand there whinging".
God it felt good!!!!!
The guy at the till diplomatically kept his head down.
She came back with something about it being a free country but I didn't have the wits to mention that "free country" doesn't include being rude about staff who are doing their best. Still, it was worth it.
I would be shy to complain in a resturant confused High standards I have come to expect ! But that is because I give a high standard myself.............and expect the same no matter where I am :?
Shame that businesses these days, expect a little for a lot of return. :?
Bring back the personal touch ! to all area's
Having read the entire link on complaining I find myself agreeing with most things that were said. Not being british by birth I find complaining a part of my heritage and because of this, and after much thought, I have decided to try a small whinge about SH. As someone who only joined SH this year I find myself a paying means that I have to pay for the right to be able to go into chat rooms and forums etc. I understand that people who joined the site before 2006 have free membership and have been told they will continue to have such in the forseeable future. I'm not sure how legal this is, but paid my membership knowing this was the case. However what makes me very unhappy is being spoken to and treated like a naughty child by a small minority of mods when they have occasion to come into a room to deal with a situation. I have been an adult a long time and am a law abiding member, and for my money I expect to be treated as an adult. Don't forget some members have multiple ids which they get for free ... some of us have 1 id which we pay for. (Polite request!!!) If we pay our years membership why isnt the extras packet thrown in for free??? That would make it a better deal for us payers.
