Feel free to PM me Fruity hun.....I'm happy to talk about it...!
Just wanted to say thanks to all who have offered me advice for this is really is much appreciated, been having such a bad time with this lately all I wanna do is cry as I cant seem to see and end to is at the moment and theres nothing I can do about it. Nothing worse than not being in control of your own body! Kinda a little like being drunk a lot of the time which would be ok if I actually liked being drunk but hey what can I say Im a cheap night out now so what could be better than that??? rolleyes lol
I've had Meniere's for almost two years now. It comes and goes without warning and despite medication when an attack occurs, it just seems to burn itself out after a couple of weeks - until the next time rolleyes
It is most disconcerting at times, but you do learn to live with it and fairly quickly too.
Although at times I find I cannot hear low frequency sounds, and it has left me with a partial hearing loss in one ear, on the whole it does not affect daily living as much as I imagined it would on first diagnosis smile
Like you, I read all the stuff I could about the condition and frightened the life out of myself, but the reality is that it may not be as bad as it would appear.
One word of warning though - if you drive, be careful :!: If you turn your head to reverse or look behind while driving, you will find you may lose control of the wheel when your balance goes at the turn of the head
Feel free to pm if you have any other questions :)

i have to say to peeps that if you haven't ever experienced this!................. its a most unusual feeling that is hard to explain!...not only the all kinds of strange sounds that keep going off in ya ears!....................... but you feel just like what fruity says!............ a drunk feeling or like being on a ship in a gale!.........but i find that the worse is the sickness!
I have managed to cope with the rest over the years! .... but the sickness yuk there are tabs for it!....thank goodness!
The only thing i would like to say fruity is chin up IT DOES GET BETTER!.............. you say you have a cold at mo!.................... which like i said in my pm to you makes things seem twice as bad!...................IT WILL PASS!
But why i have posted this is just to point out to peeps thats it can be a very frightening experience!......... so please give Fruity a hug!
All my love to ya Fruity!... passionkiss ............ and you no where to find me OK!!................
Carms are good also Fruity !............. and you are incontrol!..you will learn to be in control of it and not in control of you!

At the moment there's no cure for it. But you can go to your G.P and get medication to deal with the symptoms. You can ask for anti-vertigo/nausea medications and the use of a suitable diuretic. Also you could avoid/reduce caffeine, alcohol, salt and nicotine.
Not trying to make light of your problem, but with treatment, it isn't as bad as you may think. Reading text books and stuff usually gives you a worse idea than what it really is.

Are you referring to the types of medications? Because they're nothing to be worried about, but will control her symptoms.
The changes in lifestyle? Now that could be scary!
Nah it is valuable advice from what Ive read and been told so far there isnt a cure as such its more about controlling it so if thats all I can do then so be it. Thanks all a bit of support really does make all the difference (pardon the pun) not actual physical support but its hard to explain to others how bad it makes you feel cause there seems to be no outward signs that there anything wrong, I just look like some nutter stoating about the street out my face on drugs and thats not a nice feeling knowing that people are looking at you and knowing thats what they are thinking and having to explain no theres actually sommit wrong with my ears and i feel shit now piss off doesnt always go down too well! rolleyes
Thanks peeps its much appreciated biggrin

Actually, I'm damn sure I get this when I have a bad cold. I feel groggy, like being drunk, slightly out-of-body, sort of slow witted, & I can stare in to space for ages. Takes a long time to wear off, & its very frustrating because sometimes I feel ok.... & I look ok mad . If I can take Sudafed, or get medication from my GP that is brilliant & will certainly try it next time.
Fruity, I've certainly learnt something today, if that is what I suffer from with a bad cold.
my mother also suffers. I think the pills she takes are called stematil. probably not spelt right and they are a perscription drug. I think this medication is pretty effective and my ma's attacks are now few and far between.

Aye the stemetil does help a bit but just canny tell when im gonna get one of them mad dizzy spells come on, it usually only lasts between 20 mins and an hour but its orrible and the stemetil doesnt always work.
I found some excersises the help with the motion sickness type ting based on the fact that if figure skaters and dancers can do sharp turns etc then you can make your brain get used to it therefore lessening the symptoms of the dizziness. Sounds like it kina makes a bit of sense !
Seems there are loads of invisible diseases out there that people have to learn to cope with everyday, wonder if its more to do with medical siene is discovering more than it used to years ago or maybe we are all just a little sicker due to changing lifesyles and stress over the years!! Suppose somethings gotta gove sometimes?
Hi Ya
Just seen your thread, I work as a communicator for the deaf and last year when I was doing my post graduate course we had to cover a fair bit about deafness and casues. One of the casues can be Meniers Disease. There is no cure for Meniers Disease at the moment, all you can take is stemitile to help with the giddiness and sickness, but I would suggest that you go and having your hearing levels check.
I dont know if this will help by if you go to this link it may give you some more information> There are also other organisations and associations that can give advice about this.

I hope this is of some help.
If you want any more information, you can pm me and Ill see what else I can find out for you
Hope you get better soon

Thanks much appreciated!! biggrin
My dad has Menieres and it has seriously affected is now almost completely deaf and though he suffers less from attacks than he used to it is still a big problem for him. What you say about appearing drunk when suffering an attack is very have been reluctant to help him in public when this happens as he appears to be totally bladdered(guess having a gruff Scots accent adds to their fears too).I have only seen him have an attack once and he was lucky i was there as he had it getting off the bus and i caught him as he were very lucky in that some very kind people in an estate agents saw what had happened and took us into their half an hour one of them kindly drove us more seriously,on another occassion he was leaving the old Eye Hospital in Westbourne(Redhot should know where i mean) and he had an attack on Poole road by the traffic lights, staggered into the road and got hit by a car just coming off the is fortunately ok but it took a long time for him to get is affected most badly when it is a dull overcast day and the cloud cover is increase in air pressure causes him a lot of trouble.I hope that all of you sufferers find ways to cope with this debilitating disease and i wish you all the best.

Medical science isnt discovring anything new that wasn't in existence from before, but detection has increased. These days, people will die more from lifestyle-related diseases while in the past it would have been infectious type. Its almost like saying most of us get to choose how we die.
They are still looking into the symptoms although Im pretty sure myself thats what it is everything seems to be the same as the symptoms right down to it not being helped by antibiotics etc!!
Am on stemetil atm been dead bad today as well. fucking noise is really irritatingmy ears!! Just off to asda oh how fun thats gonna be!! rolleyes
Dear Fruity
i have symptoms very similar and they are dreadfull but as soon as i get medication they go away. The dizziness is terrible as i cant get my head off the pillow withought throwing up, but as i said as soon as medication is taken im fine. The doctor says mine is an inner ear infection but ive had it 4 times in 18 months .
The medication is named prochlorerazine 5mg taken 3 times a day but can cause drowziness, it is also prescribed for vertigo and menieres syndrome.
hope this helps love peppsxxxxxx
