my daughter had chicken pox a few years ago when she was tiny.
she has been a bit poorly over the last few days.....a bit warm and feeling off , and this afternoon has come out in a rash(suspiciously like chicken pox). i have called the doctor who is allegedly on his way to come and have a look..... but i am sure it IS chicken pox.
what i want to know is.... does anyone know if you CAN get it twice? i was always under the impression that once u had it, you became imune to it?
my second question is... how the hell am i going to stop the itching? i seem to remember calamine lotion is about as much use as a chocolate fire gaurd.
she is asleep now but am sure when she wakes up i am going to have a dogs life!
i Had it a few years ago at Christmas,i caught it from my youngest daughter.I wasnt very lotion is the only thing that i know thats stops the itching.
Sure you guys have all the right advice about getting it twice, but all I would urge is that you do all you can to prevent your children scratching. Our daughter was hospitalised at an early age with a severe case and despite everyone's efforts, she still managed to scratch which has left her with very deep scars on her face, so much so, that she is considering some fairly radical remedies. So please no matter how distressing it is preventing your child from scratching, do it!
yes you can get it twice, i think it's a virus. try caladryl lotion, it's not inclined to dry as fast as calamine and so less irritable
I remember my Mum doing me a coolish shallow bath with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in it. I sat in it for about 10-15 mins splashing myself. I remember it being helpful for soothing the itching in my little girls parts (I was 14)
All the stuff everyone else has said is good too.

Wbb - watch out!
When you are older - if you have previously had Chicken Pox - you can get Shingles (same strain - Herpes Zosta).
More painful than Chicken Pox and can also result in Neuralgia too!
And yes - you can get CP more than once when you are a kid.
Hugs (and scratches on the itches),

thanks for all the advice peeps.
. doctor came before.. never even woke her up. just glamces at her and says.. chcicken pox then went to walk out... he then as an after thought asked me if i wanted a prescription for calamine lotion and left.. oh well.. its me against the world lol.
Well at least she`s asleep  If she doesn`t scratch too much, the really itchy period should wear off in about three days.
