No because he`s australian and they think us pommies are mingers who never shower
I used to like him till I met him, found him to be very arrogant and ignorant (maybe I had an offday or maybe he had an offday?).........shame! Still like some of his artwork tho. smile
Best peeps I ever met were Morcombe and Wise....oooops now where was I? Oh yes, Rolf.....No idea if he has a knighthood....... confused:

No, not yet, but a reviewer of his performance at the 2002 Glastonbury Festival agrees with you! :
Rolf finished with a song he said he would have performed at the recent Golden Jubilee celebrations had he been invited. He sang the words from Tie me Kangaroo down, sport to the tune of Land of Hope and Glory. Surely that would have been enough to earn our imported national treasure the knighthood he so richly deserves.

Mike.
The only song I like by Rolf has to be the Court of King Caractucus ... in fact it's about the ONLY song I'd do for karaoke.
Thankyou Heather!
Anais, someone once told me the same of Norman Wisdom.........

Venus I can believe that. I have found that many of the comedians/celebs etc aren't always the same in person..... then again we can't all have our *face* on all of the time!
I have been told that arer Rolf does lots of things for charities......so on that score, good on him!

Hope you don't think this is a hijack (heaven forbid that I'd do that) ......... biggrin
I've been concerned about Rolf Harris and his songs over the years, I mean, when you consider he sung about "Two little boys" - oh yes, heard about blokes like you.
What about that other one - Jake the peg, with his extra leg (and what bloke hasn't).......
But the worse has to be "Tie me Kangaroo down sport", I mean - not enough sheep in the outback for you Rolf ? You have to degrade a Kangaroo ?
Knighthood - pah - he wants stringin' up so he can sing "I lost my Mummy" at full volume.
Right off me soapbox - as you were.

I thought he was Welsh. D'you think that explains why he's out of breath all the time?
i remember seeing rolf playing city hall in nottingham back in my student days.. the bloke was awesome.... biggrin :D :D
i can just imagine him going up to collect his knighthood.. and the first words out of his mouth would be "can you tell what it is yet??" followed by playing his wobble board..... :D :D

Didn't know he hadn't got a knighthood, but I have worked with the man and he was really good. Friendly, professional, and comical (both on and away from stage). Definatly one of my better gigs smile
There you go Venus, have your Rose tints back...
Go Rolf

I agree Anais - I have never met M&W but they were tremendous!!!!!!!!
My fave bit I remember was the Andrew Preview one
AP - 'You are playing all the wrong notes'
EM - 'No....... I'm playing All the RIGHT notes, but.... not necessarily in the RIGHT order!'
Pure class!
I have to admit to liking Rolf a bit though - but mainly when he used to do his paintings.

Jonny ball, that man should be knighted, or at least given job back on the telly educating the kids! he could make the phone book sound interesting.
My 1st post btw, hi all.
resurrecting this old thread as haven't been on for few days and well I went to see Rolf in Belfast when served there and he was brill... he even did us a "Rolf-a-Roo" cartoon which ended up in the bar but that was done for someone else...
He was a crease...
I once met the "Poison Dwarf" from Dallas (can't remember her name off hand - Sharleen Tilton I think), but she was one of the nicest celebraties I have met.
Though I can't, for the life of me, understand why she called her daughter Cherish. Luvie - i ask you biggrin

We met Zoe Ball and hubby at a club, Zoe Ball was sat with us in the chill out room, and a mate who was totally smitten, couldn`t get his head around the idea of approaching her, he just sat around the other corner of a wall she was propped up against. Exasperated, I marched up to her, and asked her to say hi to my besotted friend, which she did of course. His knee trembling first line to the woman of his dreams?
`Um, hello, I really liked your dad on TV`

The bit where he squeezes the grapefruit on the glass queezer thingies!
Classic Morcombe and Wise.
Another fave is where they have Des O'Connor on or even when they talk about him.
I just love the whole of M&C show. It always puts me in a good mood. lol
M & W used to have special guests didn't they.....I'd forgotten all about that. smile
Another programme I used to enjoy we Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie, sort of fitted in with my sort of humour.

Morecambe and Wise were true greats; however, we should not forget the real genius behind their success, the writer, Eddie Braben. As someone who wants to be a writer when he grows up, I think writers are often the forgotten people, understandably I suppose, as they are rarely seen. He was truly brilliant and wrote for Ken Dodd, Mike Yarwood, Les Dawson et al. I recently heard him interviewed about his years with M&W and was interested enough to search out his book, aptly titled, 'The Book What I Wrote'. He also wrote a play, 'The Play What I Wrote', which got good reviews but which I've never seen. Not hard to guess what it was about.
As for Rolf, I was always amazed at his ability to muster a work of art out of a few tins of eulsion and a fence painting brush while humming 'Sun Arise' (which I still love). He is a trained and well respected artist in his own right, and I watched in amazement at the series where he painted pictures in the style of famous artists; he really is good. In fact, he was so good that I was tempted to forgive him for 'Animal Hospital'......(but perhaps he wasn't THAT good)
