I may not have mentioned this but I recently got myself a new toy.
Yamaha Dragstar, not quite the custom built chopper I crave but it will do for now.
I wondered what motorcycles the members of community run or aspire to run.
I used to have a lovely old Triumph Bonneville. Went up to the Hebrides on it. A lovely machine. I cried when I sold it.
Honda Blackbird is what I have. Went to Scotlland for a onk weekend on it last month and going again in september, great roads and no traffic.
I still consider it a design classic
Welcome back to biking Ben! Im thrilled for you lol   You just cant beat the open road on a bike!
My dream bike is my '97 Bandit 1200, naked of course. I love love love it and wont change it for anything. It's as quick as I could ever need it to be, I can ride it as far as i like without getting aches and pains, i can carry ridiculous amounts of luggage on it and not affect the handling and its as sexy as foook!
Not much makes me smile as broadly as being on my bike. There are one or two other things though..... innocent
Not sure why no post showed first time I tried it... gremlins?
Oh i dunno kaz, you looked pretty good on mine lol
currently have this little beast

I wondered what motorcycles the members of community run or aspire to run.

I want THIS next

Welcome back to biking Ben lol
Honda Vtec VFR lol
I have a 1200 Bandit...has to be the best 'all round' bike ever made. However, I've had it 10 yrs so am getting a little itchy.
Mrs O says I can have 2 bikes smile
Looking at VTEC VFRs, not made my mind up yet.
Oldham.
We have a Yamaha R6 and some Classic bikes. I'd never ridden before 2005, passed my test and got straight onto the R6.. my mates thought I was mad but I've not binned it.... yet! confused
Oldham... if your itch needs scratching I'm here to help lol
OOOh bloke tell me more of these classic bikes. There is a school of thought that it isnt really a bike unless it leaves a pint of oil on the garage floor.
I always wanted a Bonneville 750 but couldn't do the tinkering necessary! Love how they sound though. Some big twins are just musical.
My daddy had an Ariel Square four. Family legend has it that riding it home from the shop he couldn't find neutral so resorted to riding around the close where we lived, waving cheerily at my mother and older siblings every time he passed, until it ran out of petrol.

The sound of a twin even drowns Tink's talking out lol bolt
Current bike....well it is the black rocket in my profile....
My next bike next year.....

About as exclusive as it gets, a large sum of money but ya cannot take it with you I suppose. lol
Dek's dream bike is a Vincent black shadow, at the minute he has a Ducati st4
Given the choice I would have a Honda fire blade although I would need to grow a few inches to be able to ride one comfortably which unfortunately aint gunna happen
my last bike was a vf750,i would love a v-max. lol
we ride an intruder vs1400
brilliant bike and just suits the the long distance cruising
came back to the uk on it last year and never got so wet in our lives never again we head south all the time now
Right now I have a couple of Kwak 750 turbo's and a Z500 in the garage and TBH the way things are going it's gonna be my dream to get one of those back on the road.
Dream bikes though is a toughie, if it was a classic I'd want a Vincent HRD Black Shadow. Modern bikes probably an R1 or a Triumph Speed triple Hmm maybe an Aprilia RSV4
But I like to tinker so would love to build build a special and if money was no object would be a twin turbo V8 with leading link suspension up front and single sider at the rear.
I did a similar thing to Bloke. Passed my test on a Yam 125LC and then wrote it off while waiting for my license to come back and smashed my knee. First bike after passing my test ? A Kwak GPZ750 Turbo lol nowt like doing it proper ;-)
Ben, welcome back to biking mate, If ya fancy a ride out anytime let me know. Try out the born to ride grouo, been to one of their rallies and it was brilliant. Met some very friendly couples there.

And are you giving me the money, thought not! lol
It's about what you prioritize isn't it? But maybe it's worth saying 'one day I will have...'

Why ever would i want to do that???
I already own my dream motorcycle - KTM 950 Adventure with full luggage - Awsome for touring the Alps every year and doing gravel pass roads when there!!
ive ridden many bikes in my life and it all depends on what you want.a harley if your crusing around, cb500 or zzr 600 if your using it for work everyday and want a cheap good runner, R1,fireblade,ninja,gsxr if your into your superbikes.
most important thing is to wear the right gear and ride within your riders crash in corners because the entry speed is too high and they are still on the brakes so the bike wants to sit up and you crash when the road runs out or you hit on coming traffic.
training really does improve your skill level and IAM will lower your insurance once you have passed.
i ride a simple honda in and out of work as its all i need for the to ride and no hassle. i also got superbikes which cost over 20k and need concentration levels and a fitness level to get the best out of them.
the roads are a crowded place these days and too many people are on the mobile or sat nav to care about bikers.
so get training and you'll be surprised about how you read other peoples reactions before an accident happens.
you'll find bike reviews and my rides on my facebook page.i also train other riders in braking and road safety.

Absolutely it does. IAM (which I have done) is extremely valuable and learning even just a couple of the skills could alter your riding style and perhaps save your life.
BUT it has flaws though. IAM, once passed just require annual membership subs to remain a member. And the annual subs are more than i save on insurance. Its easy to lapse into bad habits without any further training or at least ride outs with the IAM.
I'm not certain, but I think ROSPA insist on renewing membership by retesting every so often to ensure that advanced riding is still that.
But another good one to do is Bike Safe run by the police up and down the country. It's usually just a 1 day event and gives you a taste of the skills taught to improve riding.
I cant recommend any of these enough. I never have any brown trouser moments since doing IAM. I did the car one after too.
