I have worked for the same company for ten years and have always dressed in short skirts, stilettos and low tops. I'm proud of my body and am not ashamed to show it off!
All of a sudden, my boss called me into his office Friday and asked me to dress more "appropriately"! By coincidence, a girl who I have had several run-ins over the years has just been transfered to our section and I'm sure it's her stirring things up!
In defiance I have thought about it over the w/end and am going to turn up in my shortest "fuck me" mini on Monday!
WOW !!!........ er, do you require an assistant?? ........i'll work for free lol:lol:
TEN YEARS ! and now he decides to tell you to dress appropriatley. Ask him to define "appropriately", exactly. When you turn up on Monday tell him your interpretation of his request was that your attire was not revealing enough. "oops did I get it wrong Sir ". PRAT ! :kick: :small-print: innocent
Hope you don't get in to too much hot water though. x
 xxx
Haha good on ya! Let us know how it goes.
i wear tshirts and jeans and trainers to work.
We must be the only finance company in london to turn up to work like that.

Unfortunately, irrespective of how your boss’s change of heart has come about… he can change the standards.
He does however need to define what ‘acceptable’ standards are.
At the end of the day if he decides skirts must be of a length that reaches not less than 3 inch below the knee and informs you of this – then that is the standard.
The best you can aim for then is reasonable time for adjustment whilst you buy a skirt to that length.
To continually ignore him can result in disciplinary action being taken for failing to adhere to standards.
Probably not what you wanted to here sad

Maybe you aren't ashamed of your body but others might be offended if you're wearing clothes that are too revealing. Maybe the girl who is 'stirring things up' has spoken on behalf of the others, because they daren't?
PoloLady is right I'm afraid..... but if you stay calm and reasonable, maybe he will be willing to compromise?
A couple of years ago some pro-hunting member of my dept complained about me wearing a t-shirt that said: "For Fox Sake Ban Hunting" cos he said it was offensive and overly political rolleyes   . However my HoD (who is anti hunting) told him to grow up and shut up.... well, I think he did phrase it more politely than that cool 8-) 8-) 8-)

..Because it sounds like the beginning of what we call constructive discrimination.

Not even close – changes to dress-codes (provided it does not contravene the Human Rights Act) would not be considered an issue serious enough to make a claim for 'constructive dismissal'…. as long as ACAS guidelines are met:
The new standards apply to everyone or at least everyone who holds a similar position.
The standards are clearly defined and communicated.
The standards are achievable.

I am not trying to be argumentative by disagreeing with your comment, but I don’t think it is fair to give sheffieldfun4two false hope that she has a case.

Absolutely spot on. There are clear guidlines as to what is appropriate workwear within my company and I have to say that I do police it and have, as yet, not had to resort to disciplinary action against an individual, a gentle reminder of the requirements to anyone that is pushing the limits has been enough, however if challenged then I would happily take it as far as necessary. I did try the 'dress down friday' thing, but as I suspected at the time, I had to remove it because as usual, some went just too far.
I think you have to abide by your bosses wishes, I'm afraid. Of course, although you may have to be 'appropriate' on top, what you wear underneath is up to you!!
An ex-girlfriend of mine once dared me to attend a meeting at work that I wasn't looking forward to wearing her underwear ... there I was giving a presentation in my best suit, shirt and tie over black lacy knickers, stockings and suspenders ... found it strangely motivating!! wink

i have to dress conservativley for work which is completely different to how i dress any other time.
i have to say i dont have an issue with this as its a different part of my life, i dont go to work to be sexy - so dont feel at a loss not being able to dress that way.
we have dress down fridays and i actually find that i dont get as much work done.. probably something to do with feeling like i am not really supposed to be at work.
i have a feeling that if the boss is asking you to change the way you dres it might be something to do with complaints from other people.
as much as i dont doubt you have a fabulous figure , and as open minded as i think i am - i would not want someone in my office flashing her tuppence at me everytime she sat opposit me - would make my computer crash!

Our company uses a lot of temp office staff who appear to believe we support a dress 'down and out' Friday policy
sheffieldfun4two... Perhaps this would be a good time to ask for a pay rise - to cover the cost of the new wardrobe?? wink

I only use temps as a last resort, even though they are actually cheaper than employing, but even then the employment agency are given a brief that includes the required dress.
I work in an office where this sort of thing has happened
I would be prepared to bet it is one of the following...
You flaps were showing... ... it was way too short ! lol
Someone else has had a bollocking and they are trying to be consistent .... To shut them the fuck up!
Your boss is trying to protect you from rude comments from yours or his colleagues (which may include your nemesis ... is trying to do the right thing and be a friend.
Just chill.... take the advice... for a while and see what happens after a couple of weeks.
Sounds like you've been ousted honey. Dress classy and mature now.

I love it when my business partner comes to work and literally gets naked in the office, oh hang on though, she is my wife, its soo handy for relieving those mid afternoon frustrations.
confused i thought trinny and susannah said you either show legs or you show chest...
plus leaving something to the imagination goes a longer way in keeping them keen?
It is nice to have a little to think about. So I agree with leaving something to the imagination

You should talk to your boss about why there is a sudden problem with your dress and try to get to the bottom of it. Is your manner of fress actually offensive to others or not reflect the corporate image or brand? However you should also think about the way others dress to the office and in other departments (bearing in mind differences such as contact with clients and customers) and if there is only you who something has been said to then I would certainly raise that as an issue.
It is also appropriate to ask your boss / company to publish formal accepatble guidelines for dress code while at work in order thst no-one else falls foul of a whim on the bosses behalf. They have done this already so check your handbook, contract or workplace guidleines/procedures.
If they do not do this, do not explain why your dress is suddenly a problem and if no others who dress in a similar and/or comparable way are told to change their dress either then you may want to consider raising a formal grievance through your company grievance procedures. Remember if you do this you have the absolute right in law to be accompanied by a trade union official or representative (if your in a union) or fellow employeee (This applys even if the company does not recognise a union for collective bargaining purposes). This same will apply if you do go in your old manner of dress and you end up in a row and ultimately a disciplinary.
All that said, it may just be easier to wear something a little more appropriate, (Once it's been outlined what that constitutes) depending upon what everyone else dresses like and behaves, as sometimes it's more hassle to go down official channels unless you really think that therereally is a fairness issue there.
hey you can still look sexy and wear longer skirts ........with splits in them
