The last time I watched it, Dirty Den fell in the canal.
Both Corrie and Eastenders are centred around the pub. Or rather alcohol and its effects on peoples decisions to do things in their lives.
There is a lot of partner swapping, as one couple fall out and catch another on the rebound etc, adultery and casual sex. But does the program ever make a point of referencing this sexual activity with safe sex? Strangely enough they never do.
I dont know much about eastenders - but saw one episode where some woman drugged her husband ( i think) and buried him alive! that was enough for me
If you have been affected by anything you have seen......call RADA and complain like feck!!!!
I mean is this a normal plotline for sitcoms ntoday?
in my day , we had rite proper sticoms - like neighbours - with rite decent folk doing normal things like fallin in love an getting married ( who can forget kylie marrying jason)
I don't watch any soaps - I stopped watching Emmerdale when they took the farm out of it.
But i do catch adverts and the front pages of TV listings mags. And I'm certain that there is only one set of writers. Every soap has the same plot lines.
One has a lesbian kiss, suddenly they all do.
One has child abuse - the others jump on the band wagon.
The question of abortion comes up - over and over again.
And an abusive husband/father seems to have been bumped off in each of them.
It may reflect real life, but so much misery? To so few people in such a small area? Why don't they just all move out?
There is one point where it diverges completely from real life. they never seem to finish their beer. They take a sip, have a row with random other person and stagger or run out (depending on the story line) leaving most of a pint on the bar - totally unrealstic. LOL
i grew up in manchester and i can tell nothing is done until the alcohol is consumed - in coronation street - they finish their beer - its only down south - they waste it
Yes I think Eastenders is awful drivel.
Coronation street I used to be able to abide simply because it had a tongue firmly wedged in its cheek and had no pretensions to be taken seriously. I used to think it was the best sit com on the telly. I caught an episode recently and it too seems to have evolved into a drama series.
I do worry that these shows set a really bad example of how to behave. When I observe street or pub behaviour or the poor victims on Jeremy Kyle I often wonder how much of the excess is excused or even prompted by the examples witnessed daily in the popular soaps.
well i watch um all habit i guess
but have to admit a particular liking for emerdale its done with great wit
I agree Bouncy. I have looked to find some in EE but it is devoid of anything resembling humour.
Rock on
