I'm enlightened....apparently has nowt to do with whether I'm up to runnin' the marathon.
I went to moneysupermarket where there were a number of suggestions on where to obtain these devices and the cost and comparisons. I'll leave that to yourselves to sift through, quite worthwhile, I would think, if you have a family home to run.

I believe Smirnoff are doing a deal with a free vodka consumption meter.
On a more serious note, quite what are they supposed to monitor? Sounds like smoke n mirrors to me. And lets face it most grumpy old men dont need an extra reason to moan about the leccy bill.

I'm in two minds about this whole energy saving malarkey. Surely it's best to use as much as possible to make the demand outweigh the availability of fossil fuels etc, and that will force the energy companies to invest in renewables?
And out of interest, what powers these energy monitors? Are they wind or solar?

It really is an unnecessary gadget. Your standard meter at the consumer unit is the reliable and accurate guide to what you have used in power.
The device itself runs on a small amount of current, so already you are adding to your power consumption.
Getting the device fitted might end up in either costly work or redecoration.
yada yada...........
