You've taken a very sensible approach so far.
As for do’s and don’t , then as everyone is different these will be very much down to yourselves. Just like life every one changes as they gain more knowledge and experience, so being on SH will be a similar journey as well. So your views and thoughts will change, maybe only slightly, in the coming months and years.
The thing to remember is why you joined the site and what you do here is optional and voluntary on an 'as and when' basis.
They key thing though is to just enjoy it and, ignoring the double entendre, you'll usually get back what you put in.

Well I think just about everything has been mentioned. But just wanted to welcome you guys to the site. We have been here for a few months now and learnt so much talking to people in the chat rooms. We are going to our first social in May and don't plan on playing with anyone else this time, although after a few drinks we may go and have fun in the play area together :-) Either way we are now confident we will have a great night even if we stay in the social area and simply dance the night away!

As for pointers I would say make use of the forums to ask questions and to read other peoples comments.
Also the chat rooms are very good ways of seeing and talking to people as well as having a laugh along the way, which after all is what this scene is supposed to be about !
Lastly the final thing is to remember why you joined the scene and what you want from it as a couple and don't let other people try and persuade you that you should do something that doesn't feel right for you.
