I'm pondering taking up an evening class in September, in an attempt to have at least one non-work night during the week.
Has anyone done any good courses of late? Recommend anything?
I'm not looking for an overly academic class, more practical or creative so that I can relax and focus on something not workish.
All ideas much appreciated!

what about floristry?
our local college does things like cake decorating (I did that and loved it), balloon decorations (the type of displays for weddings and parties)
it also does night courses in things like reiki, hot stone therapy, hopi ear candles, reflexology and aromatherapy massage
i have done evening classes at college to learn something different and to further my education
some clases that i went too twice a week at night but on the last year the coarse got changed to day times instaed of nights due to that not many people enroled on the coarse
any extra education most consider that this may happen
i took electronics tv/video repair at the moment i am considering hairdressing to do but not as a full time job thoe
I did a class in silver jewellery last year... am waiting for the enrollment for September so that I can go do another. It's ace! Hugely therapeutic (although an expensive hobby) and I loved every second of it.
Well worth doing if you like jewellery.
EDIT: I also did a pottery class years ago... that was ace too!
Learn a language, then go on holiday and put it into practice....

How about something like massage or aromatherapy? Mrs C did an Indian head massage course, but that was a daytime one so might not be available to you.
ive done massage, aromatherapy, sign language, and now doing cake decorating
i love the cake decorating forget everything when i am concentrating on a cake
I took a massage and aeromatherepy course........
Comes in handy... and it is actually really interesting...
like earthy... oooh.. i do fancy learning sign language, and as for learning a foreign language, I can point in you the direction of a few podcasts that are fantastic for that
what about a wine appreciation course ... get drunk by not spitting out (ewww how common) and also wine educated along the way. a fun way to learn. and i even represented wales at a competition while at college (came last we was giggling so much)
A second language or signing course would be my options, although the language option may be too much down the academic route that you said you wanted to aviod.. the balloon thing that mrs bonedigger suggested sounds cool too... and the wine thing. There's so many :P
I've done Stained glass, Archaeology a level (the field trips were great), yoga and a few others.
I'm looking at doing a plumbing course. £75 covers replacing taps, fixing leaks and other fairly basic stuff. Really worth while when you remember that call-out of a professional plumber alone may be £50 a time.
Why not learn Akkadian. Then you could translate the whole works of Shakespeare for the ancient middle east. Then, in the likely event of no one reading it, you could treat the whole endeavour as an exercise in Zen.
Best thing we ever did 4 years ago was to start Ballroom and Latin classes. Still at it and loving it.
