Many thanks to everybody who has offered help but particularly to JQL, who has stuck at solving my very long problem for quite a while now - to Mark for his help and to a certain lady who has kept me supplied with oxygen in my airless dungeon of the past month or so! I'm touched in the fullest sense of the word!!!!
Look out! Please........
And a particularly heartfelt thanks to Pierced Jon for coming up with the right answer :!: :!:

Welcome back TE, a new entry in my 'what can be buggered up on the internet' list, invisible caches. What will NTL think of next, hehe (I on BT) Sorry I was about as useful as a chocolate teapot to you on this, but glad to see you on again smile

Blody hell, talk about a shot in the dark, lol.
All I know is invisable cahches are ment to work to reduce "real trafic" as ISPs get charged on volume of data, so an invisable cache holds data "locally" so users get it from there not from the live website's. That it was the cahce is quite astounding, lol.
It might be worth SH having a chat with NTL and find out why the cache fails (going into nerd mode, i'd like to know, lol)
All that said, apart from having to find out the DNS/UBR IPs etc that ntl uses so the firewall doesnt block the various bits bobs that are needed to keep a live connection, I've never had probs with NTL in all the time i've used them, bar the cache.
But glad I could help :-)
The following might help others :-)

There is a list of the cache ips... so play with them, till you get the best response... i turn the "manual" setting on and off depending on what i'm doing... hardly friendly, but hey... nerdsRus, lol.
