Woohoo
Where on a Sunday morning, knowing DG's location, do you get Magnesium oil from?
xx
Holland and Barrett do it for as do most health shops.
Thanks for that... I'll maybe work up to going out again.
I had a smoothie before my session at the gym and another afterwards both with whey protein powder. I generally suffer every week... I'm finding muscles that I didn't know I had but it's never been this bad before. It's right behind my elbows on the upper half of my arms (I ache all over but not really sore) and I can't get my hands to up to my face.
If anyone would like to come blow my nose for me and feed me breakfast that'd be much appreciated! :giggle:
Arnica gel is a good one for muscle ache, you don`t need to rub it in just put it on and leave it to soak into your skin, you can get it off a well known shopping channel they also do arnica bath soak which is a godsend
Don't stay in bed.
Make sure you have plenty to drink. Stretch all the muscles that ache (and all the others if you want). Don't overdo the stretching or it will hurt, but have a go. Keep moving, don't hunker down on the sofa. If you stay rigid your muscles will 'set' in whatever position you are in and take longer to recover. But don't do anything a) too hard or b) too repetitive.
Make sure your muscles stay warm - put an extra layer on if necessary.
The swimming idea is good - just don't use it as a time for more exercise - just move around in the water gently. But beware - if (like our local pool) the water is cold (they claim it's so serious exercisers don't overheat - chuh) you won't feel much better and may feel worse.
I take paracetamol for that kind of pain but sounds like there are other preventatives out there.
A soak in a warm bath does the muscles the power of good. As is getting someone to gently smooth oils over you afterwards.
Ensuring you warm down after excercise is every bit as important and warming up properly as well...
I'd just echo what a few have already said. Do a good warm up and stretch thoroughly after your workout. Also, if you're new to it a certain amount of stiffness (no laughing at the back please) is inevitable, power through it!
when i was riding i used to train for about 4-5 hours a day.
mostly running, mountain bike riding, swimming, light weights workout and a good diet.
sometimes id be knackered and didnt want to go but when you have to, having a goal or mission helps to push you harder and get you off the bed.
I used to train in the weights gym around between 1 and 4 am as this was the quietest and best to concentrate on what you need to do.
My ipod was valuable as i had files made which got the temper up and had the red mist coming down then i found time went by quickly.
If my arms or legs ached i used to warm up by covering them in deep heat max strength before and after the workouts.
As i have had serious injuries in the past some things like the rowing machine hurt more than others so i knew i had to prepare for the worst and the deep heat just about worked.
when i was working out i would be riding the bike in my mind attacking the track and get myself into the right position on the bike and learning were i could possibly go quicker and often i would stop in the middle of a routine when i discovered where i could pick up time or enter/exit a corner into the next complex quicker.
even when in the shower people would laugh as they could hear me humming the engine note as i was still going around the track in my mind.
Its all about focus. You have to be driven and want it.
With me id say it became an obsession and looking back was to much but other riders worked out harder and often burnt out quicker.
You may not like your hips or shape of your legs but whatever it is only do it because you really want it or your going to let yourself down and its always harder the second time to pick yourself up and go for it.
but i can tell you after years of hard training, bike crashes and dieting i am now left with a neck muscle problem, various shoulder and knee issues plus hands that suddenly lock the fingers tight and go numb.
some days are better than others but i always have a part of me complaining until i get it all fixed.
