good luck mate, I am in the mi8ddle of it myself, I used the stop smoking service ( didnt have to go to group meetings just a one2one with a advisor at the chemist where I get my patches ) and the patches are great. Ok, had a relapse today and smoked 5 cigs, each one tastes like shit as well smile
TJ your right hun, your senses of taste and smell are over 20 times more sensitive than a average smokers so you would smell/taste the difference ( thats what the advisor told me anyways )
biggrin :D
]Day FOUR
Hows it going confused: :?:
How many so far, if any :?:

]Keep at it .
Fred
Bumping up just to say good luck to Parrot and to Kristof too. Gave up about a year ago after being a heavy smoker. The secret is to look at people smoking and not think 'I'd love one' but think 'Wow, poor guy/girl, I'm so proud of myself that I dont have to do that any more'
Sounds glib but you end up believing it
biggrin
Parrot mate = today is day FIVE.
By now there should be no trace of Nicotine in your system. as it only takes three days for the body to get rid of it .
In that case all you should have left now is the habit of holding somthing between your fingers. Kick that and you have won .
All the best mate and I hope you win..

Fred
ps:- Mrs gave up on the same day and has not had one so far. lol
Hi parrot
How you doing I hope it is going well. Just think of all the money you can save from not smoking. I really do hope you will suceed in completing not to smoke.
Keep me informed as i am trying to loose weight as a few people on here say you need willpower you certainly do.
Which i am lacking at the moment

Don't pick on me over the next week or two. :boxing: duel
This normally placid, polite and gentle person is giving up smoking.
I last tried this in August and managed OK for 2 weeks but then I cracked 2 ribs and was confined to a chair and smoking was all I could do without hurting. :violin:
So, midnight tonight is the deadline and co-incidentally at 00:01 it will be my birthday so I bet some sod buys me a lighter. drinkies  coffee
You have been warned. :small-print: smackbottom :smackbottom: poke
Steve

The fear of lung cancer, made me give up smoking parrot. That was forty years ago.
Keep trying and you succeed in the end.
Day Six
How is it going
confused: :?:
Pump up
Fred
Can anybody show me the way to the shop that sells this willpower stuff you all keep on about ????
I have tried to give up smoking and failed miserably
Those of you that know me will know that 9 weeks ago I suffered a MI(new fangled language for heart attack) and went the 5 days I was in hospital without any problems at all but once I was out of hospital it all went tits up
I have even thought about hypno-therapy and accupuncture but am unsure where to find out more info on these subjects confused: :?: :?:
When willpower was dished out I was definately at the back of the que..
I will just add that Steve did try the patches and gum, but it didn't help at all.... sad
People have said to me that I should be telling him off every time he lights up but if I did that we would just end up divorced.... It doesn't help that I smoke as well, but like Steve I just dont have the will power to do it... These last 9 weeks have been filled with severe stress and problems which have been unrelated to Steve's MI as well, the last one was me being made redundant....
Good luck Parrot

Steve,
I have seen self-hypnosis CDs on eBay for stopping smoking and various other things. I had a tape years ago and found it helped me.
Keep trying, it's worth it. smile

It helps stop that "First thing in the Morning" craving for a fag.

try reading "the easy way to give up smoking" by Allen Carr. no need for patches etc, you just lose the urge to smoke. downside is you'd have to keep smoking until you finish it!

Can not afford the book = need pennies for fags lol lol
Fred
Hey folks.
How are you all coping with this, afraid I've fallen off the wagon redface :smoke: surprisedops:
good luck parrot - we know you can do it!!!!
Ok, instead of posting a new thread I used the search button.....wow, it works! biggrin
I am officially announcing my intention to give up smoking.
This post is in the hope that I won't fail as I'll have told everyone about it and will feel really really guilty if I give in to temptation. wink
I'm not using patches, I'm not using that yucky gum stuff. I'm going cold turkey....... confused
My date to give up is this coming Monday.
I will not be angry or tetchy, I will not scream in frustration.....I will be a placid, nice person throughout the whole experience.
I'll calmly count to 10 and tell myself I don't want a cigarette....if that fails, I'll just keep counting and counting and counting until I fall asleep!
All that money will come in handy for various things, including the up coming Notts Munch where I owe a few people some drinks.
I will resist temptation.
Thats all for now.
Good luck with the packing up smoking thingy Onlyme1981, but remember........we will be watching you at Notts, making sure that you stay the course. lol
i tried quiting and then i couldnt fags are bad!!!!! i just carnt stop!!!!
Congratulations on giving up smoking......
Hope you're sticking to it....
Not only will your health improve... but you'll have more money in your pocket... a win-win situation...... lol
It will be tough..... but you can succeed.....

Technique for people who can't quit:
Decide that as of now, you are a non-smoker.
Now set a date to quit being a non-smoker.
Because you are unable to quit, when that date arrives you will succumb to your weakness and put off quitting giving up untill the next day.
Next day decide you will quit being a non-smoker next week.
Fail miserably and decide you will give up giving up next month.
Just keep promising yourself that one day you will definitely stop being a non-smoker and keep making excuses to put it off another week/month/year.
