A South London Newspaper has reported that HIV fears have been sparked after hundreds of unsafe bootlegged condoms marked "extra safe" were sold. These condoms have mainly been sold in the South London area. They are being sold in chemists and supermarkets. The packaging they are wrapped in is an illegal copy of the extra safe range. The code 20604354 appears on the sham boxes. A helpline has been set up for those who may be worried that they have used these condoms. The Durex helpline is 0800 338739. You may think im just being a big fusspot but it could put you at risk, which in turn does put everyone else at risk too. Better safe than sorry.

Whats with the :roll: Im not sure how they may be affected. At a guess i would say that maybe the material that they are made from is probably not up to the standards that they should be, so more likely to split. Dont take this as gospel though. Checkout the durex website or call their helpline and im sure they will answer your questions better than i can. I was only trying to make people aware of the potential problems that could arise (excuse the pun) from these fakes.

The scare has come to light just weeks after the South London Press revealed that one in 135 people in Lambeth has treatment for HIV.
The picture in Southwark is not much better,with one person in every 165 diagnosed with the virus.

Scientists from the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have tested them and say they cannot be sure of their safety.
Condom bosses are trying to get the imitation sheaths out of the shops that have been there since May 2005.
Will Nutland, head of health promotion at Terrence Higgins Trust, said the fake condoms were potentially very dangerous.
