Ok, with 2x 40th, 1x 21st and 1x 18th birthdays in the house this year we've got a grand party to celebrate them all in one go. Venue sorted, disco is booked, bar sorted, so now we turn our attention to that stalwart of family parties - The savoury finger buffet.
So here's the deal. Suggest one savoury item (or cute little 3 cornered sandwich filling) to grace the table assuming around 120 guests aged 8-80. Jewls a dab hand at baking so home made is fine as long as it's not too elaborate. Cocktail sausages on sticks and sausage rolls are a gimme and vol-au-vents are banned.
I shall set the ball in motion with cubes of strong cheddar with silverskin pickled onions on cocktail sticks.
peanut butter and marmite
what about mini scotch eggs made with quails eggs, they are fairly easy to make and look very impressive.
I know you said 1 suggestion each..lol
But also mini fahita wraps are very popular and not very expensive to make.
A slightly different version to sausages on sticks...cooked mini sausages in a sticky honey and mustard sauce in a bowl with cocktail sticks next to the bowl, very easy to do
Hard boiled eggs with the yolk scooped out mixed with mayonnaise/mustard/spices and put back into the egg yolk hole
Different types of pies and quiches
scotch eggs/sausage rolls
Pasta salads
Plates of sliced meat and bread buns
Potato skins with assorted fillings
crisps/nuts/crackers/onions/cheese
A selection of cakes and gateaus
Sorry you said 1 thing didn't you redface
cubes of strong cheddar with pineapple cubes on cocktail sticks, yummy my favourite
You cant ban vol-au-vents smackbottom
Prawn ones are the best things ever at a party
Ohhh what about a spicy indian selection, samosas and bahjis with riata dip

Neither savoury nor truly sweet but :
Halved figs, baked with a little honey on and sprinkled with sesame seeds and served with a sliver of a strong cheese like a really good Cheddar or even Jarlesberg on top are delicious and can be made the day before. (They are served cold)

Quote from the same place.
"Gentleman’s Relish was a fermented, spiced anchovy paste whose secret recipe Patum Peperiumdates back astonishingly to 1828 and whose perfect partner is hot, buttered toast. Deciding to do it the traditional way I popped the top off the small, white plastic pot and spread a little on the corner of a sippet of toast. Wow! This stuff is potent. The saltiness hits you straight away, but the intensity of the fermented anchovy creeps up and keeps creeping up, similar to a first Marmite experience (which in turn is like a near-death experience). But this crescendo peaked and I began to find myself enjoying it thoroughly."
