What was your favourite childhood toy, the one you most remember playing with, or it went everywhere with you.
Mine was a rag doll called.....funnily enough Dolly, my mum made it for me in 1977 when i was 6...and I still have her now, 31 years later.
Shes been repaired to death, as her fabric has disintegrated, shes had patches and layers put on so make her whole again! Her legs ar a gaudy pair of stripy 1970s sock sewn on when her legs began to disintegrate.
I love her to bits and she has been hugged and cried into on hundreds of sad, angry and stressful occasions. She still is, if the truth be told, and is a good neck pillow when I have a stiff neck.
so who/what were your fave toys from yesteryear??
Oh my god! I was thinking of this in bed lastnight! lol
I had a doll I called Rissie which I had for years and years. Also this elf, well it was probably a Sprite, that I called Peterlee. On facebook there retro 80s toys application, I think, showed them yellow teapots. Remember them? the one where u had little figures of a family that lived in it? I loved that!
I also had two fave torches, honest! Remember the Playskool/Playschool (sp) one? It was yellow and there was a thing on it to change the colour of the light to white, yellow or red? I think they were the colours.
Sylvanian Families. I never had them but one of my best friends did in my street and we used to play with them in her playroom in the attic.
Oh my god, i'm gonna be reminiscing my childhood toys in bed again tonight and think of loads more
Miss Cream xxx
PS Sorry, I got a bit carried away in this thread but my doll Rissie would have to be my fave biggrin
I had two. One was an old broom that I turned upside down and cocked my leg over the handle. It then became a wonderful horse with the bristles becoming the mane. I'd charge around the house having a great time.
The other was a battered old teddy. I called him Geraldine. He went everywhere with me. I mistreated him terribly. And when his stuffing started to come out I donned my mums apron and made a face mask from one of her headscarves. Imagining myself to be a doctor, I put him on a table which of course was now an operating table, and made him better.
I can still see him in my minds eye. Lovely old thing.
Favourite toy was imaginary......a horse. Ma & Pa couldn't afford one, so I made it up. Galloping all over the local countryside, playground etc. Me and my horsey loving pals would spend hours on our imaginary gee gees. redface
Well mine was a doll with a dummy with a big plastic spike! she had a sponge body with a case in the back with a plastic record in it, one side of the record she cried when dummy pulled out and the other she laughed.....oh happy days i loved her to bits and she was called rebecca.I also got a red and white cradle that year from santa this was second best till it fell to bits oh and my purple pram ...thats 3 lol
pepps xx
Eve goes for her lego which she took everywhere ina suitcase, whereas I had a battered brown matchbox taxi which invincible in battles and races ,well it was when i was in charge of the game
awww what lovley memories....amkes me feel all warm and squiggly inside :inlove:
the box it came in
lp
rolleyes :giggle:
Magic Robot
Echoes
Lego
Not this modern stuff wear you can build anything but red or white bricks that just came in different rectanglar sizes. What I normally built were the space ships and cars from Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlett. The lego was so worn out no vehicle survived its maiden voyage without some major part just dropping off.
What I really, really wanted was an SPV with the pop out doors and missile.
SPV = Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle
Didnt really have a favourite toy when I was really young but I remember the times when me and my Bro used to get in our mums washing basket and slide down the stairs in it!! God I wouldnt dare do it now...
But my favourite would have to be a christmas present I got when I was about 9 it was a skyway BMX bike and I was soooo chuffed that it had the stunt nuts already on it!!
Gutted I got rid of it as there worth a fortune now
My favourite - probably that early 1970's Game Battling Tops - huge fun ! Especially when you spun out of the ring - even more fun than Mr. Tippet !
Yours pulling the string and watching the Top Fly off ..

As my Facebook friends will see... Big Ted biggrin
I had a tin toy thingy that had a trigger you pulled and there was a wheel that span and produced sparks. That was such a cool toy most assuredly not allowed now i guess.
Meccano & Gerbils
the nuts and bolts last longer than the gerbils, but the short-lived 'robots' were fun
lp
I never had one though what i really did covet was an Evil Kneivel Stunt cycle
WOW!
Blimey I think i'd still like one cool

I used to have one... five minute bloody wonder I assure you... then some twat stands on the bugger and it never runs straight again sad
I had one........ it was cool but hopeless. The advert on the telly whiched showed it jumping and going for miles in a straight line was an obvious fraud.
My fave toys were my action men- especially cool if yuo made a parachute for him and lobbed him out of the window.
