He wrote it for her, all verses.
He 'covered' it, himself, without the verse about girls pushing prams.
HTH
thanks vix, i was just going to type that myself, and i still think kirsties version is better
Hmmm.... nope , sorry Vix + teppic ..
wrong.
A new England was on Spy Versus Spy which was issued in 1983.. a good few years before Kirsty covered it... and she wrote the extra verse and Billy Bragg thought it added to the song...
Now off to Google the proof! Grrrrr lol
Bingo!

The explanation is half way down, left side in the yellow bar bit...

It says "those verses were written specially at Kirsty's request"
It does not say she wrote them, Mr Smug Twat Sir. :P lol

which is the last verse of the Kirsty version of New England that I wrote.
{note to self... never think you are 100% right}
But... i was 99% right... nerrr...
One of my all time favourite songs is Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man".....
A lovely song of hope, and one which I live by, having been up and down in life a few times.......
I've posted the whole song, because as a whole, the message conveyed can be seen more clearly.....
Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you'll find love,
And don't forget son,
There is someone up above.
(Chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won't you do this for me son,
If you can?
Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.
(Chorus)
Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.
(Chorus)
Rick wink
At the moment its this
I will not abandon you my precious friend
Sang by Tina Arena in the Musical Whistle Down the Wind
Here's a selection:
3. "Die young, stay pretty" - Blondie
2. "Everybody needs a bosom for a pillow" - CornerShop
1. The 10 minutes of heavy breathing in "French Kiss" by Lil Louis
cool
I tend to associate my moods with songs, but there are a couple of lyrics that spring to mind:
Thunder - A Better Man
And now I believe in love (I believe in love)
I believe in love (I believe in love)
You're the reason why I can
Cos when I look, at myself, in the mirror
I see a better man
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Just about every line from Wonderful Tonight (Eric Clapton)
God knows why - nobody ever drives me home when I'm drunk!
