Feeling self satisfied should be encouraged when you've done something good or worthwhile and deserves a pat on the back. There's nothing wrong with telling people about it either
Smug is when you're just saying 'look at what I've done, aren't I just wonderful' or 'I've got this and you haven't' in a ner ner ner kind of way. Something you'd expect to hear from a child but coming from an adult it's very immature.

Smug is the kinda word that folk use to describe others. So if somebody is proud of an achievement or satisfied with their life others are inclined to call them smug.
Its very similar to arrogant which is frequently used to describe others who are able or intelligent.
I agree, but also I think we can feel smug about ourselves and our own achievements especially if someone doubted our ability, would that be arrogance?

Sassy has just worded really well what Im thinking about the word "smug". It is a sense of self-satisfying. If I was to say I felt smug about something, I feel as tho Im really chuffed about something but put someone in their place, u know? Like a smug smile? That's just my view on the word
