My youngest lad is a bit of a film buff. He is just finalising the set up of a home cinema with film projector, screen, surround sound the lot.
We've been discussing what would make a suitable film on DVD for the gala opening.
Only two key attributes, which are:
1) Some good action
2) Humour
So far the favourite is summat from the Indiana Jones series.
I'm providing the beer, wine, crisps, popcorn and prawn crackers.
Any suggestions, with some rationale, will be gratefully considered. Might even be a prize for a winner.
Hi Tune lad
Had you thought about The Mask? Great effects and You just need to be a Jim Carrey fan (no problem in the mask - its just that every role since has been a reprise of the mask!).
And the added bonus (if you haven't seen it already) is that there is a follow up new release soon. Relax - it aint got JC in it this time.

eurotrip is the funniest thing I've seen recently, depending how old the kid is biggrin
Hubby says Aliens, and turn the volume up. OK yes he did work on this film so he is biased but i have to agree, its a fab film!!
"Get away from her you BITCH!!" mad

Thanks for the suggestion (and for calling me lad lol ) How did you guess that Jim Carrey gets on my tits. Actually he was very good in the Mask and The Truman Show but beyond that sheesh!
Certainly bear it in mind.
How old is your son, Tune?

All adult - sorry should've said. Thanks
Could be that it was the first film I saw on my DVD thingy, but "Men In Black" was superb, great sound, great effects etc, really was a good watch.
It's got that helicopter Dolby ad right at the beginning too, effin brilliant with the sound turned up, the helicopter goes all round your room  then it does a booming thing, wow, soooooo cool!!!! Always play that to when I wanna show people the effect of a home cinema thingy confused .................. my next post I think, has got to be something that will make me look slightly more dazzling, and interesting :? rotflmao
Die Hard and Die Hard II. I can watch them over and over again and stll enjoy them!! lol
as i sell those surround 5.1 cinema dvd players , the best sound comes from star wars , the pod race is brill, or another is pearl harbour, planes coming from all sides, or if he soppy then titanic, water coming from the back of you
It would have to Raiders of the Lost Ark or Superman the Movie!!

Geez, thanks for all the goodies so far - I can see this turning into a Cannes Film Festival.
So far we've had:
The Mask
Eurotrip
Aliens
Men in Black
Die Hard
Die Hard II
Die Hard with a Vengeance
Star Wars
Pearl Harbour
Titanic
Superman the Movie
Raiders of the Lost ark
Any more? Greedy bastard aren't I?

It'd have to be Back To The Future for me. It's stood the test of time magnificently.
Having said that, I premiered our home cinema setup with Goodfellas followed by The Shawshank Redemption. The score of the latter makes the hair on my nick stand on end.
Fight Club-Bloody great film, great sound track, great down right bloody great biggrin

The Shawshank Redemption is my favourite fim ever.
How about Forrest Gump, every time I watch that I spot something new in it.

How about Kill Bill vols I & II?
I think both are available to rent, or you could splash out on the boxed set. It's fairly caustic adult humour (funny one-liners rather than comedy) but with an emphasis (part one) on non-stop nail-biting action, and a race to make sense of it all (in part two).
Doing the two together (as they were originally intended) is not something offered by the cinemas yet, though with ordinary DVD you'd lose much of the impact. A home cinema system sounds the ideal.
Another fab film I can think of that has lots of action but slightly heavier emphasis on comedy is Bride and Prejudice (released on DVD in March) depending on when your grand opening is!
After that many of the humour+action movies are less than top notch - Men in Black (the first one) is not bad though. Spider Man II is quite witty, nice easy-viewing action, and is a 'good' film (ie generally speaking good critical reception).
I like all of these. smile

Ah. Didn't realise that. Freudian slip!
Watched Van Helsing at the weekend - excellent film and very 'tongue in cheek' in parts...
You can't beat Oceans 11 a cracker of a film - the latest version that is.
Or, star wars - is great on a big screen with the surround sound.
I liked the Last Samuri. Great on big screen.. biggrin
Oooh Shrek tooo !!
Hmmmm
Had me thinking this one....
I think starwars...or at least one of them would be a good one for the premier...it's got it all really...the action...the sound....the princess
But gone in 60 seconds would also be pretty good......the action, the cars, the sound....the Jolie :rascal:
Geez thanks everybody - you're a wonderful collection of people. I'll let you know when I've put it to the 'Committee'.
