its simple most prominent forumist have been banned couple of weeks ago and has made the place tasteless,i for one have no warnings left so must be careful how i express myself...but forum banters ending in locking, threads taken off and people banned for having strong opinions will always be against free speech...all i read here is protest, but do i say!

With regards to the highlighted part......I dont think its become tasteless because of a cpl of bans being administered dunno
Less agressive/confrontationalperhaps but tasteless no....
Not in my opinion anyway......
Those that have been banned for a spell will be back and we can only wait and see what happens when they do....
They may change......They may not......
Thats the beauty of being an individual I suppose :-)that the description of tastless to me but the place is getting better again
So you enjoy all the agression, arguing and backbiting rolleyes
of course i do,but not backbiting whats that anyways...i said things are improvung so no need to go on about this one liners

Because you think things are improving doesnt mean to say I or anyone else does......
In the short term things have improved yes I agree but I doubt it will last :-(

just sad that it feels as if people feel like they are being pushed/squeezed out.....

Well don't let it happen Sean, the strength of the place is the good'uns that stay.
.
Tune I find this post really contradictory :undecided: .... At the beginning I felt that you were saying the oldies should move with the times and let the newbies take over ..... now you're telling Fabio that it's the oldies that give the place strength! dunno

Cali, I've just quoted the bit that leads to where I may have misled you.
I wasn't suggesting that you have to be an old member to be a good contributor. We see quality people walking through the door most weeks in my view.
What is important is that you can conduct a discussion/argument in a civilised, hopefully intelligent and ,if possible, humorous manner. That is what I meant by 'good 'uns' and, of course I want them to stay.
The place is the people here (plus the architecture, which is good in my view) - it is what we make of it. Hence I would not want Sean to leave - he doesn't need to 'fight' in my view - just be here and be himself - that's good enough and all anyone can ask.
Northwest-cpl is right to say this place hasn't changed over the years and he quotes examples that I can clearly remember too, which have been followed by introspective discussions like this.
I did not start this thread with the intention of it becoming an angst-ridden hand wringing session. It was intended to point out that things are not that bad and that we should appreciate that and get on and enjoy this place.
I have asked for this to locked before because I didn't want it to become negative.

I love this place, lots of friends here both old and some new, but it appears that there are a small amount of posters that dominate the forums, that's good indeed, I won't argue that, but I will argue that anyone who disagrees with them gets sharp shrift, making it uncomfortable for both oldies and newbies to continue posting!
Yes there have been some amazing posts, I just feel it's a massive shame that anyone feels the need to belittle others, the "walk on by" chants appear to have replaced the "search button" and "been done before" and I remember the same complaints back then ;)
The debating on the forum hasn't changed, there have been some great debates in the past, what I find appalling is the lack of tolerance that is apparent now.
You gave the advice to Sean to stay and fight (in effect) well I've tried that over the last few days and now feel that I'm wasting my breath, and yet there are comments littered all over the place from various posters that feel pushed out, or that they as older serving members aren't welcome, even Mods have stated that! Why should they feel that way? There is room for everyone, to be apprehensive at posting on a forum is ridiculous and yet it's being allowed to happen!
There's a comment somewhere about "it might get worse" why??? If a few more people stood up and stopped it from happening then all the better. It'll only get worse because people shut up and put up!
Exactly what some would like me to do. :dunno:
Still I will contine to put threads up both serious and funny, as long as people want me too.
Have a nice weekend all.

Nooooooo
I've made my fair share of negative comments but hopefully there have been some positives as well....
I make the negatives so perhaps some people may get an idea of whyIthink its gone/going downhill....
If others do the same then everyone will see what everyone else thinks is wrong and somewhere along the line there may be a few common points raised...
Kinda like a mahoosive brainstorming exercise :lol2:

I am a newish poster only been here sinse about March I believe, I have been on the site longer.
I feel we all have a part to play here old new or indifferent, Some of the older ones have been very helpful and supportive, I dont know what others see.
It is always hard for newbies feeling their way, all we can do is give them space to develope.
I always say a party is only as good as you see it yourself other would always say it wasent as good as expected.
You hold a party invite the guests it is up to them to enjoy it. I see the forums as an open party no invites needed.
Hope this makes sense! rolleyes lol

Yes it does.
And the sooner we all realise that this place is what we make it (which is Cali's point) and the fact that it will not all be to our individual liking most of the time then we've got a chance to co-exist without ripping eachother's throats out.
Respect and tolerance do not have to stop anyone expressing diverse views and opinions, which is after all what makes this place interesting.

We also need the ability to communicate which isn’t always easy in the written form. I do see some have better techniques at doing this than others, but we all need to show tolerance and understanding of others.

I haven't seen anyone tell you to shut up ... :dunno: perhaps curb the newspaper quotes or suggested diversity from debating but afaik no one has told anyone to stop posting :dunno:
In reference to a conversation I've had with someone (as well) there is a difference between missing the point and not wanting to see one ;)

Why should I curb them? How many times have I got to say if people dont like them, then dont read them?
I have done about 7 newspaper links in all the time I have been posting in the forums. If people think that is too many, then sorry thats tough.
My opinion of course. cool

Thats probably true Steve, even I was suprised when I added them up. I thought there was more to be honest.
I have never and would never ever, ask a member on this forum to curb what they write, or how many times they write. So I do not expect others to ask that of me.
If I want to do one every day then I will, I have done nothing wrong, why cant some see that? :dunno: All because it does not fit in with some members views?

Things move on, things evolve. Whats wrong with moving forward? A lot of people have said the forums have been great for weeks, maybe we should listen a bit more to those comments perhaps.
Why is it some want to live in the past? The past is history...gone. The future is now and tom. cool
