I'm about to get a car, my first one may i add, so i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to which one i should buy. There isn't a money problem but obviously i don't wanna shell out £4000 a year in insurance, so nothing too extravagant please smile
One more thing, what was everyones first car?

My first motor was a red Vauxhall Viva 1300 HC. The HC apparently stood for High Compression 'cos this was the sporty (!?!) one. It was 'P' reg (1976) and I was 19 so that would have been in 1984. I didn't keep it long 'cos I was into bikes and started racing in 1985 so I sold the Viva for a Sherpa van!!!
The Viva was slow, ugly and didn't impress the girls (I guess I bought it because it matched my personality so well!!!) but I was able to have the momentous occaision of losing my virginity in the back of it to a gorgeous little lady that swallowed!!! What a lucky boy I was to find this lady for MY first time!!!
As for suggestions for a first car nowadays I think the same applies to when I were a lad. Get something cheap & cheerful for the first one 'cos you're bound to hit something, bugger the clutch and/or gearbox or have all your mates use you like a taxi service so why do all that to a car you have spent a fair bit on?
Anyway, have fun scanning Exchange & Mart / AutoTrader / etc!!!

1985 mini cooper
so nothing to special

No, that's pretty special. Incredibly so in fact, considering they stopped making the Cooper around 71, replacing it with the less than inspired Clubman range, and only started making Coopers again around 91!
I'm not going to mention my first car, but thinking slow old Vauxhauls, I got my first ever bj in a Chevette 1300! I actually like them, but this one was completely knackered, and my g/f at the time and I had to find something to do while the engine cooled down... wink
mk 1 capri gt bright orange with rostyle wheels and boot spoiler
Ford Poular, black 1940's thing, threw a con rod into the works at St Johns Wood roundabout, I ran onto the pub forecourt there pulled on the handbrake, removed all itentifying marks and legged it! (circa 1964).
I did better with the next one, MGB, iris blue with a wood steering wheel and wires, God but I loved that car. Greasing up and down the Kings Road with pirate Radio London too loud, top off, thinking myself flash, (which I was), in my maroon hipsters and afgan coat, white shoes and John Lennon dark glasses, they killed for me! (Flash Git).
Vauxhall Viva SL (Its all about the SL) Bright yellow. Cost me £150, and came with a boot full of empty whisky bottles and betting slips. Had an interesting fault where when you wound down the drivers window the door would open, no advisable at high speed.
first car was a green mini clubman estate loads of room in the back when the seat was down lol
We've had a thread like this before ages ago but ill post re: my old banger again lol
My first car was a green Fiat Strada which i named Eric (Eric Estrada geddit?... anyone remember CHiP's?)
The only think I learnt was that Fiat stood for Fix It Again Tony. BLoody thing was a tank thou, was sitting at a roundabout when some girl crashed into the back of me. Her car..a Ford Fiesta with sports lights etc..was smashed to pieces...mine.....not a mark! lol
xxx
my first car way back in 91 was a jet black showroom condition ford capri 1983 a reg looked the biz and went like sh*t off a how i loved thrashing xr3i's and alike back then lol .got a mondeo mk 2 now wich is very quick but not as quick as the capri through the had other capri's since my first one but none were anywhere nere as quick as i sound like a boy racer  .better get back in me box n shurrup
First was a 1949 Landrover series 1 which I rebuild from the ground up when I was 16 / 17.... Wish I hadn't sold it now, I'd love to have it back! I know it's in good hands, just down the road from me, and he won't sell!
Running a Ford Escort at the moment, but bought my first people carrier in September 2003, which is currently under restoration. See avatar.......
Rick! biggrin
i had an xr3 in red she was the love of my life biggrin i was your typical racer boy always had my mate and as many girls we could fit in back lol  touring lancashire every night oh boy the good old days boy i had street cred
Mine was a Lamborghini Countach my father bought it for me when I was 17, it could do almost 200mph.
My father bless him owns half of Ireland, so we were spoilt brats.
Well I thought it was a Countach it was actually a 1.3 G reg ford escort Popular !! Which stunk of dampness in the back seat URGHH !!! banghead oh and it hated the cold and used to come up and get in bed with me.
Mine was a 1966 mini cooper s (british racing green with a white roof).... ahhh those were the days many a young lady saw sights they had never seen before (mostley the soles of their shoes in the wing mirrorrs!!! )
I had a 7 seat Ford Galaxy 2 years ago..... 2.8 Ghia went like shit of a stick and really upset the boy racers at the traffic lights............ how embarassing being blown of by an old git in a people carrier,,,,,hehehehehe
I owns 5 cars as I am Managing Director of a vehicle leasing company, specialise in luxury vehicles.

2) Audi A8 4.2 Quattro
3) Porsche Carerra 3.2 Turbo

The best I have driven is a Bentley Arnage! Had some good fun in the back (very roomy) with some couples in the past!
Am looking very much forward to buying my first!
Oh well, here we go.....
1) 1978 Ford Escort Mk1 1300 GT
2) 1981 Ford Escort MkII 1600 Sport
3) 1984 VW Golf Mk 1 (what was I thinking !!)
4) 1986 Ford Escort XR3i (seeing a pattern here?)
5) 1990 VW Golf Mk2 GTi (just kept on going)
6) 1998 Mitsubishi Shogun (family, dog & caravan by now)
7) 2002 Renault Megane TDi (no wife, dog or caravan!)
Fave has to be the Mk2 Golf GTi. It broke down on the test drive (had to be towed back to the dealer by a taxi !!!) but it never dared to fail me after that.....
Ant.
Ooooooh how many swingers can you fit into a Mini?
Now THAT would be a game and a half!
First car i ever drove was a 4.5 litre v8 Dodge Ram in America (on uncles rance)
First car i owned was a fiat uni. only way we could get any wheel spin was on a rainy day with 3 friends sitting on the back ...leaning as far back as they could. (it wheel span for half an inch lol)
then a clapped out ford escort, then a v6 mit fto now a land rover (fun to drive through width restrictions at 60mph with half an inch either side)
saving for a maz rx8 or a tvr cerbera (yummy) though totally impracticle for dogging. shit, need a rethink

My first car was a Lada redface Pile of Russian junk. Gear box was awful. If you could use that you could use anything!

Friend of mine used to have a Lada Estate which he stuffed a Chevy 350 V8 into, sprayed it bright green and named it 'Lada Lout' !!! Bloody fast and bloody dangerous
In the end he used it just used it for drag racing at the strips
" If money is not an issue where cars are concerned then l know a very nice factory in Newport Pagnell wink

There's a nice one going near Birmingham as well............Only cost the last owners a Tenner!!!!!!!!!

Cars are like b/fs, friends, and lovers - if you spend a lot of time, money and emotion on them, you are more likely to remember with affection the good days biggrin and with irritation the days you wish you'd sent it to the crusher mad - you should save your above words for people on Jeremy Clarkson's level, Vix, 'cos one of these days he's going to whip out his cock and shove up an exhaust pipe ( Probably on his soon to arrive GT40 ). lol
Ps; yes I am almost as sad as that, especially over bikes. redface
i had blue (with a black door)750cc fiat panda lol  , it was alrite tho as the back seats just folded flat down into a bed, never got any action tho. i musnt of looked cool enough in my blue bullet!
I had a Mark 2 escort. It was a lovely motor. Of course I trashed it like all boy racers do by adding those little extras.
I put lovely deep grey carpet on the inside (including the parcel shelf).
Obligatory Big speakers
posh stereo
New wheels
Boot spoiler
Janspeed exhaust
Webber Carbs
K&N filter (which i especially loved as it came with a sticker to put on the boot lid.
etc......
Thinking back and now looking at all the ridiculous things which lads put on cars I luah to myself whenever I see one.
I would still shell out on an RS2000 (Mark 2) though.
Or possibly a Mark 1 Astra GTE ( )
However, i f i was choosing now I'd go for something which the ladies could get comfortable in. (My mates old 1275GT mini was such a poor choice on his part)
