Be yourself, try not to get too nervous, but above all let the host know when you arrive. Many of us have been party virgins. Usually, the host will introduce you to regulars, which is a huge ice breaker. Going somewhere, not knowing anyone can result in an early exit, if you don't feel comfortable. So your host, will do their best to ease you into the party scene, should you wish.
Oh, and remember, stay within your comfort zone. Anything that makes you uneasy, aint worth it.

If at a private party, I find it is entertaining to turn all their fridge magnets the wrong way round. It is hilarious and the hostess will join in the hilarity of the moment.........................
