Thanks Judy,you're a diamond.
Sorry I won't be staying long in Manchester, just long enough for the expo,or else I could have given you a shout.
Thanks again for the the idea about using the tram.
Contact the hotel direct. You may find they have some concessions with one of the local NCP car parks which could drastically reduce your cost. Are you staying overnight? Again, whichever hotel you stay in may have a concession arranged.

Information this way please :P
The Ramada Jarvis Picadilly Plaza in Manchester has it's own car park! per night I believe!
Residents only, but I believe that includes guests visiting for business funtions... a call to the hotel would no doubt clarify it! No phone numbers please.
Cheers Barewolf.

don't they have a park and ride thing in plymouth rolleyes
I have always parked in Chorlton Steet Multi Story, when travelling to Piccadilly and not really knowing my way around. It is relatively easy to find from the main road and the car park is above the bus station around the corner from The Britannia Hotel (I think). Daily parking rates were reasonable last time I used it and unlike many car parks I have come across in Manchester, the one in Chorlton Street is not Pay & Display, this can be useful if you don't happen to have a pocket full of change.
I don't know how well you know Manchester, but I always find it fairly confusing entering the city. If you do not enter the city in exactly the right direction (no siniggering please :P) it can be really confusing to navigate the various one way streets punctuated by tram tracks. SatNav is very useful in Manchester, but failing this, if you don't know your way around the city, why not use the AA Routeplanner and use the directions to navigate to your destination.
Just a thought, but alternatively you could drive to Altrincham (pronounced, 'Ol-tring-ham') which is just off the Motorway network - M6 J19 and follow the A556 through Mere and Bucklow hill and into Altrincham on the A56 (approx 7 miles and less than 10 mins from M6 - Station signposted once in Atltrincham). Altrincham Station has its own pay & display car park which isn't too expensive. Metro Link (trams) run from Altrincham to Piccadilly Gardens (facing Portland Street and the Ramada Jarvis Hotel) every 6 minutes, and back again of course. Altrincham to Picadilly Gardens on the tram takes about 15 minutes. I think it's about £5 return. biggrin
There is also a "park and ride" situated at the old Ladywell Hospital site in Salford. Leave the M602 at exit 2 and follow the signs for Eccles and Hope Hospital. You can then jump on the Metro-link which will drop you right outside the Piccadilly hotel, and costs £1-80 return.
