Giving up smoking is easy. I've done it hundreds of times. 
I'm with NiL on this. Giving up food for a day wouldn't bother me in the slightest, but the simple fact is I am a nicotine addict. I can easily go without if I have to, but if I don't have to, if I have a choice, then I choose to smoke, and I think if they're honest, 99% of smokers would probably say the same thing. The weird thing about nicotine addiction is that even though the craving is overpowering, the withdrawal symptoms are actually a piece of piss. I mean I can sleep for 8 hours without needing a fix - an alcoholic can't do that - and yet making a conscious effort not to smoke is incredibly difficult.
Anyway, what a load of bollox - sex addiction is far more interesting, less expensive, not subject to taxation (yet), tastes better, is good for the heart, and only rarely causes house fires.
