I just wanted to say a thank you to the folks that were in the forum chat tonight.
I was able to make a joke about my dad and his smart ass ways without tearing up. It felt nice to be able to do that.
Should I feel bad for having a joke about my dad now that he has passed away? I don't think so. If y'all had known my dad you would have laughed till your sides hurt ... he was a prankster. So I imagine he is laughing right now.
Thanks.
It is always far better to remember a person in good/funny scenario's biggrin Those are the memories to savour Abi smile

what a lovely sentiment! biggrin kiss
I've always talked about my Dad is if he was still with us. I share his dry sense of humour and we would chuckle at the strangest things.
It's good that you can now see past the sense of loss and remember just what made him so special to you.
Never let go of that hunni kiss

I think its perfectly ok to have a laugh, a joke, releive funny memories about our loved ones who are no longer here.. I dont think they would want us to be miserable, or sad every time we though of them.

I always believe you should celebrate the existence of a departed loved one ....not mourn their departure.
Laugh away it's so much more fulfilling.
What everybody else has said, celebrate their life!Sadly, memories of my Dad are now fading as he died 30 years ago, but the most vivid was turning into the church at his funeral ...... to see all of the cars that belonged to relatives and friends, then going into the church to find it packed. It was a real comfort to know how well he was liked!
