Anyone else getting frozen screens? Been happening to me now for a while but only here, rest of the web is working fine. Its not a catastrophic freeze but I cant click anything in the window all links etc do not respond. To fix it I have to hit refresh page. Can be a pain in the ass I had to rescue a long post just now as it froze with it on the screen before submitted.
happening regular to me....in chat rooms....frezze mode
I get freezes but only in the window. I have not yet had to close down Firefox. I find I can hit refresh and then the window will work again. This is a pain in the ass when I write a long post then hit submit and the page gets frozen. I cant hit any links I cant copy my text to try and save it so my only option is to hit refresh then quickly hit stop. If I can do this before the page is refreshed I can then submit the post again. If not then I have to hope I am lucky and the text is there still when I hit the back button. Have not lost a post yet but its still a bit of a pain in the :moon:
This is only happening to me on SH, nowhere else. Guess it must be site related.
Where do you turn it off?
Part of it has been caused by the teckkie guys testing out the new IM feature, when they are loading / unloading it etc.
Been also getting the freezing screen a lot. Went to setting ....privacy...messenger.....drop down box. But when you put "off" in the top box, ie "global", it turns off all the features below. Don't see a seperate button just for IM. Am I doing something wrong?

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with problems.
I have had a situation since rejoining this site (not a problem in 2007) with the side panels closing over the centre box. SH help suggested that I changed my browser, so I did, from BT to Internet Explorer which cleared that problem but now I have the "freezes" from time to time that others are complaining about.
Plim
No worries L33. Currently set to 16 connections. 48 do you, or higher? Probably won't have a result for you till tomorrow morning though . . .
N x x x ;)
Max, L33, tested Firefox with more connections as suggested. Increased -connections and -connections-per-server to first 48, and then 128. Trying to open 10 tabs in background broke the site with both settings. Site doesn't like the 128 connections setting at all so dropped back down to 48 connections, and have so far managed to break it at 8 tabs opening in background, and 6 tabs, so increasing the number of connections doesn't seem to have improved anything?
Neil x x x ;)
We have just made a load of changes to split certain parts of the site away so more connections can be open. This went live about lunch time, can you let us know if things are a bit better now.
thanks
Neil, looks like I may have got the setting slightly wrong, I think you probably needed to change -persistent-connections-per-server which is by default 6 I believe, probably explaining why you had problems at 7 or more tabs. In any case, it looks like the changes we've made to the site have fixed the issues. I would recommend restoring the -connections-per-server setting back to default by right clicking on it and selecting reset.
