Well hate is far too strong a word, as in most things in life there are pros and cons.
But... what I find highly irritating and hypocritical is certain people putting others down for hijacking or getting all lovey dovey in threads etc... then they go and do the same thing themselves!! :doh:
I may be annoying but at least I'm consistent. wink

My thing is not a hate but just an observation. Its a shame that more people do not post in the forums. With over 600,000 members, i wonder why this is. It would be nice to hear a wider range of views on different subjects.

i dont have hates as such, maybe little annoyances.....but id say they were about particular members attitudes, nit picking and self righteousness etc etc etc rather than the actual forum as a whole. i also agree that more people posting would be a good thing, its just sad that people maybe dont feel comfortable posting here for fear of a negative reception, from fellow members and mods/ops.

I'm not keen when people quote a previous post in a thread and then other person quotes that post and so on, then the thread becomes a pain in the arse and too long for me to be arsed to read........... does that make sense?

There are inevitably people who have been around and posting regularly for a long time. Those people tend to become familiar with eachother and often like 'old friends'. It is also true that they've seen many of the issues and arguments pursued to the bitter end in the past and so can quite often respond to a 'new' issue by starting off half way through the argument - sometimes without realising they're doing it. That's called experience.
If you're new, that behaviour can give the appearance that there is a clique. However, the quality posters don't moan about it, they get on and enjoy it and make their own persona on the forum.
Right onto my rant!
This could be a Steam Room thingy but it is something that relates to the forums more than anything else. It really pisses me off when I've carefully crafted a deep and meaningful post to a thread, read it through,corrected it for grammar and spelling - I press Submit and I've been timed out. I've lost the whole flucking thing and have to start again. (yes folks I've just done that on another thread). Would it not be possible to have some sort of warning so that you can do something about it? (I'm now going to copy this before I press submit rolleyes

Isn't differing perception a wonderful thing? "There is no clique", yet many, many people feel that there is because its existence has been a recurrent theme throughout my time here, and I've been here longer than most. It probably isn't a clique, because that implies some sort of organised behaviour, but more a small group of individuals who behave in the same way.

I agree - one characteristic of a clique is exclusiveness, and despite the closeness of some people in here who know each other very well and often address each other in posts, I still feel that most here are open to new people who come in, and are friendly and considerate towards them.

I hate it when something is posted which appears to be almost meaningless or pointless or silly and amusing, would appear to be inoffensive etc. But somehow the thread turns into a terrifying ordeal of abuse, misunderstandings etc. people getting uppitty, pm's flying back and forth. Coolings off etc.
Then we you read through it again, you wonder how the hell did all that happen? confused

well it didn't take long for it to get round to the subject on "cliques" again did it... smile

I thought it would have waited till at least page 2 or 3....
I won't call it a forum hate, more a pet peeve......but when i do see a certain amount of "fluffy-ness" that does turn me off and is the quickest thing to makes me stop reading a thread, so if someone writes has the audacity to come back to the topic at hand, i certainly won't come back....
it normally goes something akin to this order....
interesting subject........then the hijack....... then the love in of "fluffyness"
I got given a great piece of advice by a mod in the way back when, when i started posting in more frquent numbers.... if it gets to the stage of only 2 people talking... and it is all fluffy, take it to pm! that is what it is there for, besides other things...
i just wish some people would do that more........ I am certainly not saying if you have something to say then don't say it, it is a forum after all, but what does 2 or 3 pages of "fluffy" actually contribute to the fourms?

I have never conformed to going along with the majority to score points or be accepted... I say exactly what I think!
It appears to me that some people come along and feel if they have a different opinion then other people should just take it as red and not challenge or question it - but ...
if some of the â€˜other peopleâ€™ have different opinions and choose to express those too... then that is somehow being negative and so they shouldn't post what they think confused

Again - I have had a quick browse at your previous posts and don't see you constantly being told to shut up for sharing your opinion :? Nor in my opinion does it appear you 'bothered' too much before your decision not to.
It is a forum and the cafe covers a range of subjects some not so serious and some serious - there is bound to be debate. But it is just that, everyone expressing opinions. Nobody says you can't express your own - but when you do, everyone doesn't have to agree with you either. That is debate.
I appreciate most subjective comments like yours are all about perception and we all need to accept that perception is a subjective truth. But if you want your opinion to hold any weight, try making it objective... explain what you mean or give an example. Open a discussion instead of chucking in a throw-away comment.

the perception of a person who has posted 25 time in "the cafe" is the 8 months he has been here (sxi4uall) is always going to be different to the person who had been here for 3 yrs and posted a couple of thousand times...(da69ve)
maybe the people who posts a lot is so far in forest, they can't see the woods for the trees...... but then again, if a person is only posting on average 3 times a month how can they feel as involved as they could be
you can look at it both ways.......
people call it "cliques".... i disagree..... if you went for a drink in a pub and had 1 pint in there for 10 minutes in any given week and people didn't know you, would you call that place cliquey???? no..... so why label it here.......
There are always going to be certain "dynamics" of any forum when the people who post most are always going to have a better feel for others who do the same than the "outsider" looking in....people have there own style that others become accustomed to....and will be able to bounce off each other.....
such is life... i am sure you do the same in the "big wide world" out there,,,

I don't see it as a clique but just people using there prefered meathod of use for this site thus becoming more pally with others who feel the same. It could be said theres a clique in the regular locale type rooms (which is how i first felt here) in the chat rooms.
EG someone comes in the mids room and says anyone from Bradford ? they wont get kicked cos they are not from the mids. Might take the mick but wont be unwelcome and i dare say it goes the same for the other rooms such as the South Wales, North East ect. which i sometimes go in to see if other friends are about i dont feel unwelcome in any of them now but did at first so thought,wrongly, this is a little cliquey.
Its like any new place its feels qliquy but most likely it is not.

the joys of being able to read through previous posts.....as long as you have learnt what you can and can't say under the AUP that would be the lesson you took away from that episode..

people will read into something what they do.... after all isn't that what you have just done??
it is proof of a clique.... that is what they call human nature...... someone writes something and i may intepret that differently than the next person and so on and so on!!!
if we all saw everything from the same point of view, and read everything the same... wouldn't life be boring....
p.s i don't think the chatrooms are any less "cliquey" than the forum, the only difference is that if someone was to make an ejit of themselves in the chatroom they get kicked straight away and only a maximum of 70 people see it.... Whereas if you make an ejit of yourself in the forums, people can go back and look at what you have written and stay with you for a long time......

Well actually I didn't say you did - I asked if that was what you were saying.
Did it sound like 'dat'? Actually yes it did. It did because you used the example of you being banned as proof of a clique and it is mods/ops who ban people - not regular members. Hence me asking if you then beleived they were part of the so called clique.

There is a clique, there has always been a clique, I was part of that clique for awhile, yet the names in that clique change, today's clique is different to the clique I was part of which kinda suggests that the clique is a constantly shifting and changing one, which suggests by definition...there isn't a clique :shock:
Anyway who gives a fuck about that, taint an argument I want to get into. I don't have hates, if I did I wouldn't bother, but like everyone else there are things I don't like such as 'lets meet up' now that section is for folk to post searching for meets etc and for the most part does what it says, however if the cafe is dull and boring and in my opinion it very often is (someone sack the clique and get a new one in ) then there are folk that will go search around in there for a post and often under the guise of 'offering advice' pull the post/thread around. They know its not advice they are really giving, I know its not as well and just don't understand it.
Posting for postings sake. Fookin 'ell if I had a quid for every post that I've read that is so obviously done for no other reason than 'fuck the keys are in front of me I just gotta hit them' I'd have enough to resign and realise my dream of taking my team of mountain rescue dogs and setting up in Holland.
