AVG anti-virus is fine, used it for years with no problem at all.
Wouldn't touch Norton or McAfee with a bargepole, they're both major resource hogs !
Never had a problem with Avast Sassy. Easy to install, runs right out of the box with next to no setup, frequent updates to definitions and program, and so far seems to have caught pretty much everything nasty that's tried to make it onto my PC. Doesn't seem as resource hungry as AVG, and has more options if you want to be nerdy with it. ;)

Good luck getting rid of Norton, Sassy. It's the computer equivalent of a sticky bogie :scared:
(might be worth a google for a guide on getting rid of it completly, i'm sure 'uninstall' just removes the programme and not all the registry files which cause half the problems)
I am another one who hated nortons.....
I use both AVG and avast.. great because if one doesn't catch something, the other one does.........
Thanks for the hints and tips ( Meaty, you're so helpful you're scaring me now  )
I've got shot of bloody Norton :kick: and installed Avasti which seems to have done the trick speedwise. Let's hope it does the job
So how do you get programs (like Norton) off your computer then?
Whoever replies, please type slow cos I ain't fast at this techie stuff

Another vote for Avast here ! It's free ( the right price ) and it just works without any fuss.
AVG all the way...
Dont touch Norton unless you want first gear all the time
The majority of AV programs now-a-days don't detect everything. The main problem for systems running slow is usually malware. Malware isn't technically a virus/trojan so AV programs tend not to deal with them brilliantly.
Two free anti-malware that are safe to use as run once applications (run when you want, not constantly running) are Malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy.
Weblinks here:
The majority of stuff these programs do find are often manipulated cookies that aren't exactly bad but you could do without them being on your PC.
I'd recommend going to either or both of which have links to downloads but both are usefull for their reviews and user recommendations for all kinds of free software.
P.S. goodluck with getting rid of norton the removal tool works but not always..try if you have any trouble
Windows Defender.
It's free & the full scan is just that FULL.
Looks at every file & drive on your P.C
You can even do a scan of a USB Flash Drive.
Really good but do it at night when your asleep & not on the Internet or P.C
Then you wake up & it's done.
Wouldn't recommend Windows Defender - always scores low in tests (check out PC World, CNET and ZDNET reviews).
My setup (all free software) is:
Avast for anti-virus
Comodo Firewall Pro for firewall
Comodo BO Clean for things that hijack your browser
plus occasional cleans with CCleaner and Spybot S&D if I think I've got something nasty that needs removing manually.
