yes he was flash and yes he was a good looker and played the ladies well xx but as a soccer player he was a genius , I watched him play over 5 times even though I am from Leicester , many players have come near ... bobby moore.. pele.... bobby chrlton etc etc etc the list goes on but for sheer skill showmanship and the first of the soccer superstars there will only really ever be george best.....callum must be proud of his ol man .

Yeah, because you'd be really proud of someone convicted for drunk driving, who assaulted a policeman and was supposedly capable of domestic violence. Nice. Oh, and he wasted a transplant - maybe it would have been more use to someone else? Good footballer maybe; means sod all though really.
when did he die??? shit, knew he was ill but didnt know hed died.
think we will see gazza gone soon.
alcoholisum is horrid

read any paper in any city in any town it all reads the same as above so you dont have to be famous......all sons are proud of their dad whatever they have done no one person should judge another untill you look in a mirror and judge yourself only then after you are happy with what you have done can you truly judge someone else with a comment ? end of

Some poor soul who was desperate for that liver, went without so that idiot could get it. Then when he jumped the queue, cos he was George Best, he spunked his opportunity that he was given.
He then went on to treat his wife like shit, hit her and then carried on drinking until his drinking killed him.
Yes he was a great footballer of his day, but a shite human being, who like Gazza is on the last chance saloon. Will Gazza take it? I doubt it, another George Best in the cemetry.

Yes it is a great shame.
But really I have no time for people like this. For sure bend over backwards to help them and their addictions but....some people just do not want that help and those I say let them get on destroying their lives.
Feel sorry for the people left behind who have to pick up the pieces.

do we all remember brian clough ....again another great talent wasted on drink but he hid it so well untill the later years when he came out and admitted he was an alchoholic ,there are so many you could name the actor michael elphick mike yarwood the list could go on and on but it has been said a transplant wasted but not to the recipient who got the transplant who ever it was ?

Yep - sweeping generalisation that travlin.
Freind of mine used to play rugby for Salford and they shared the same physio as Man Utd in the late 60s/ 70s.
Said he went in once and Best was having some treatment and he had the biggest tool this guy has ever seen, seems some guys have it all.
Yes he was an alcoholic and wasted some chances, but he was a sick man. Some people you just cant help.
Still the greatest footballer i have ever seen play live by a country mile tho

Could be why he's turned into a womanising waster too if he's using his dear old Dad as a role model confused
As for George's transplant, I do wonder if he was Joe Public instead of a former footballing great would he have been given the go ahead knowing there was a high chance he'd be back on the drink as soon as?
He doesnt have superstar status in my eyes.
Yes he was a good footballer, probably could have been great. He had a lot of natural ability and talent with a ball.
But he wasnt prepared to put the work in, wanted to go drinking, clubbing etc and not turn up for training, but expect to be picked !!
And exactly how long did his football carreer last? i'd be suprised if it were 5 years!
After that we had to put up with the sob stories of an old hasbeen and waste resources on transplants.
In my humble opinion, he has been surpassed my so many sports people and footballers since.

If you watch footage of the "greatest football players", Best was certainly one of the best dribblers and finishers there was. Top ten anyway in most pundits selection.
He's in my top 5 for skill on the ball , finishing ability and presence
Pele, Best, Giggs, Cantona, Maradonna
But his career was shortlived... why, because IMO he was a bit of a lemon, A little like buying a Maclaren F1 and having electric problems that even the best mechanics cant solve.
if he'd have stayed at United for his whole career, he would have been even more ledgendary.
His demise as a player , and a person was saddening to many. RIP Besty.
No one can deny he had talent. But he made bad choices.
Alcoholism is an illness.
I do have to put one thing straight. He did not get his liver transplant over someone else because of who he was. There is a strict organ sharing scheme in the UK. Any available organ goes to the best clinical need at that time. When George got his; he was the most needy on that day.
George would have been proven to have been off the booze for some time before even being put on the waiting list. He is not the first patient to recieve a new liver and to drink again after. I doubt he will be the last. There is no other treatment for end stage liver disease (alcohol related or not) apart from transplant at the present. So these people would die without a new liver. An ethical and moral dilemma??

He gave up alcohol and had the right to the transplant.
He became a waste of space in my eyes when he went back to drink. That liver could have been used for someone else.

But there is a chance it would still have gone to another alcoholic who drunk after and died. But we don't get to hear about them as they're not famous.
Going back to George - its a shame that this is what he's remembered for best!

It could have and if they had done the same then they would also be a waste of space in my eyes. My comments were on what he done after the transplant and not because he was famous. Any person who had done this would be a waste of space in my eyes.
If I done it then I would consider myself a waste of space. Hope that makes sense lol
