Is anyone here giving up anything for Lent??
Think a period of abstinence from alcohol will benefit me... how long does Lent last? A week should be OK.

Well I can't start now coz it's my birthday week. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)
I'm not Christian but I do think it's good to sometimes go without.
I've been not eating bread or pasta for a few weeks now and feel fabby for it - does that count??
Kiss - you'll have to add another few days to the end of Lent, but 40 days sounds excessive enough. I suppose it's to do with the 40 days and nights of the flood? Or perhaps the 'sojourn' of Christ in the desert?

The 40 day period is symbolic of the 40 days spent by both Moses and Elijah in the 'wilderness'.
I'm planning on giving up drinkies permanently, not for 40 days.
This seemed like a good as time as any.

Well, that must have been an extremely difficult 40 days (and nights). Or is it like giving up chocolate in that for the first week or so you can't think of anything but chocolate, but by the end you don't really think about it and maybe even not want it again?

I am gonna give up having 'cunning plans' I get loads of cunning plans, that are on the face of it, shite, mainly cos they are made up on the spur of the moment, the moment normally being a bonkers one and mrs davej whilst supportive is getting miffed at fishing me outa trouble so cunning plans are now out....for a bit

giving up drink or chocolate for lent is rubbish, because by doing so you are benefitting yourself and thats not the point in lent!
