After deliberation, I have decided to give up smoking. So I have decided that Tuesday will be "NS" day.
I have put the nicotine patch on my bum (which is bloody itching already mad ).
Does anyone have any tips to help me give up the weed?
take up swimming, they'll be too soggy to light biggrin
good luck, it's very hard to do, but we're all rooting for you
Find another way to keep your hands and mouth busy?

lol
Good for you Alex_Female, it's hard work but worth it in the end.
I have to agree with Zootle, you will need to do something else with your hands.
Good luck
John.
My advice would be to work out when and where you usually smoke and either avoid these situations or find something else to do with your hands/brain so you won't notice.
My other bit of advice is make sure You really want to give up, if you do and if you beleive in yourself you will manage it even if it takes a while.
Good luck.

How about saving your cigarette money for the first week and treating yourself to sometime to pamper yourself with at the end of the week? dunno I've not managed to kick the habit myself yet......down to only 1 or 2 a day now but can't quite manage the full whack!

GO TO A HYPNOTHERAPIST!!!!
that's my advive. I went on the 29th December and I haven't smoked since, and not really wanted one either. Mine was a little pricy, but definetely worth it. Almost as good is Alan Carrs book, which I gave up with a couple of years ago then was a fool. good luck
Id recommend hypnotherapy also, although I have now started again I did stop for 18 months before and admit it was 100% easier than it ever was before and as soon as i came out i never smoked since i left!
If you were in Glasgow I could recommend a good one!
I have went back since then and tried to stop again but it seems not to work for me now probably cause im not as suggestible as i was 6 -7 years ago! But even when I did go back I was stopping for long periods of time 3 months usually at a time.
I did try a different one the last time but found him really rubbish and also ridiculously overpriced!
So choose carefully if you do decide to use this method! In my experience the cheaper one was the best! I felt the more expensive one was a complete rip off!

Thank you for your tip fruity, although I am sceptical about hypnotherapy as a cure to stop smoking. A mate of mine went to see a hypnotherapist, charged her a fortune and she didn't stop smoking. We later met him in a pub, smoking, and admitted he couldn't give up himself mad

If you are arty, take up something messy, like clay. When I`m doing my cly work, I can go hours without, I`m just too into it to want to wash my hands for a fag.
Oh, and avoid threads about giving up smoking....
They just make you think about it more!

well the obvious is to have something luike a fake cigarette so every time u fancied one u stuck this in your mouth..it does work i know people who have done it and i believe there is a product along tthese lines u can buy from the chemist
good luck with the no smoking xxxx
Hi Alex hun,
I gave up smoking in march last year with the help of the patches.
My worst time was sat in front of the pc, so I used to suck lollipops (aware as I am typing this it could be seriously misconstrued) .
I also had a fantastic stop smoking nurse at my local surgery.
Good Luck
We are always here for you to shout at when it gets too much

Alex,
The things I found that helped me with the craving were chewing gum, drinking water and cleaning my teeth. If your mouth feels lovely and fresh, you won't want to spoil it by smoking a dirty nasty fag!
The first few days are quite easy - I even got a bit of a buzz from not giving in to temptation.
After a week or two, if you are tempted to smoke, you'll find you've got your taste buds back and it's just blummin awful, which should be enough to make you quit again.
I take it this means you won't be replacing the cigs you nicked off me last night?????
out of interest, how many do you smoke? I only have about 5 a day so the patches and gum are too strong and make me feel quite sick sad
I asked my doc about it and she said that I'm not addicted to smoking, I just have no willpower at all, and couldn't give any advice apart from just not smoking them anymore! lol
I'm sure I'll manage one of these days! rolleyes
Hiya Alex
Good luck with the whole packing up smoking scene, i hope it goes well for you.
The main thing is to keep yourself occupied to keep your mind from even thinking about ciggies. Another tip might be to chuck your fag money into a jar, bottle, bucket etc each day, and see just how quickly it accumulates (then blow it all pampering yourself in any way you see fit lol)
Good luck hun, you will never regret it

Talking of 'pyschologically speaking'... have you any idea how hard your avatar is to someone on a diet as it portrays lots of gorgeous sugar! LOL
:sparring: get back sugar... I will beat you! :)
The craving for a ciggie is when we are likely to start snacking. I was recommended to eat citrus fruits as this cleanses the palate. It does seem to work, if you used to smoke quite heavily, then stock up on a few different varieties (Clementine, Grapefruit, Kumquat, Mandarin, Minneola, Orange, Satsuma, Tangerine or Ugli all do it for me)
Of course taking your mind of it by going and doing something, like putting up shelves and swearing alot, also helps. Remeber swearing and growling at anybody and everything is theraputic, and should be exercised at all times. It doesnt matter if it is the kids, the couch or the dog, go on give it a kick wink
I could tie you up for a couple of weeks, feed you the citrus fruits, keep your mouth clean. redface
Okay okay i'm going bolt
Good luck hon xxx
Good luck Alex.
Don't have any miracle tips for you. If i did, i would be using them myself.
Let me know how you get on and how you have managed to keep off them. I could really do with knowing from you rolleyes
