Good for you Alex_Female, it's hard work but worth it in the end.
I have to agree with Zootle, you will need to do something else with your hands.
Good luck
John.
My advice would be to work out when and where you usually smoke and either avoid these situations or find something else to do with your hands/brain so you won't notice.
My other bit of advice is make sure You really want to give up, if you do and if you beleive in yourself you will manage it even if it takes a while.
Good luck.
Roger the Dragon (A smoker who has been between fags for about 8 years)
Good luck to you Alex hunni.....
You can do it, I know you can, you've got such inner strength to draw on. It's going to be hard at times, but you can beat it.....

GO TO A HYPNOTHERAPIST!!!!
that's my advive. I went on the 29th December and I haven't smoked since, and not really wanted one either. Mine was a little pricy, but definetely worth it. Almost as good is Alan Carrs book, which I gave up with a couple of years ago then was a fool. good luck
Id recommend hypnotherapy also, although I have now started again I did stop for 18 months before and admit it was 100% easier than it ever was before and as soon as i came out i never smoked since i left!
If you were in Glasgow I could recommend a good one!
I have went back since then and tried to stop again but it seems not to work for me now probably cause im not as suggestible as i was 6 -7 years ago! But even when I did go back I was stopping for long periods of time 3 months usually at a time.
I did try a different one the last time but found him really rubbish and also ridiculously overpriced!
So choose carefully if you do decide to use this method! In my experience the cheaper one was the best! I felt the more expensive one was a complete rip off!
If you are arty, take up something messy, like clay. When I`m doing my cly work, I can go hours without, I`m just too into it to want to wash my hands for a fag.
Oh, and avoid threads about giving up smoking....
They just make you think about it more!

good luck with the no smoking xxxx
Hi Alex hun,
I gave up smoking in march last year with the help of the patches.
My worst time was sat in front of the pc, so I used to suck lollipops (aware as I am typing this it could be seriously misconstrued) .
I also had a fantastic stop smoking nurse at my local surgery.
Good Luck
We are always here for you to shout at when it gets too much

Alex,
The things I found that helped me with the craving were chewing gum, drinking water and cleaning my teeth. If your mouth feels lovely and fresh, you won't want to spoil it by smoking a dirty nasty fag!
The first few days are quite easy - I even got a bit of a buzz from not giving in to temptation.
After a week or two, if you are tempted to smoke, you'll find you've got your taste buds back and it's just blummin awful, which should be enough to make you quit again.
I take it this means you won't be replacing the cigs you nicked off me last night?????
Hiya Alex
Good luck with the whole packing up smoking scene, i hope it goes well for you.
The main thing is to keep yourself occupied to keep your mind from even thinking about ciggies. Another tip might be to chuck your fag money into a jar, bottle, bucket etc each day, and see just how quickly it accumulates (then blow it all pampering yourself in any way you see fit lol)
Good luck hun, you will never regret it
