You were not trying to help at all. Your post was directly intent upon winding up Kaznkev. Being helpful would have been posting that it shows on a profile when someone is banned, not all the gubbins you posted.
As moderators, we don't like our name taken in vain. If you find that aggressive, that's only your perception which you are entitled to think, but it doesn't make it true.

Well as is MY right to complain to the site owners, then I have.
I was not taking ANY moderators names in vain, I was making a comment which I still believe to be true. What is so wrong with that?
I am not going to get into any spats with you, but because you are a moderator of this site, does not make you automatically right either.
Gubbins? Was any of that untrue then at all? I am confused here.
I am also interested in a reply to Max's comments as I remember the thread very well.

Mal, this is a serious question and not intended to wind any one up, I'm just seeking clarification. A few weeks ago, I requested Mod intervention in a thread where a member was making totally irrational comments about me, only to be told that Mods could not now intervene ( due to the 3 strikes rule) unless a complaint had been received. Have the rules changed again since then?

Hi Max
I'm not sure of which thread you're meaning but I will confirm that a certain member was not being moderated by the moderators because they were specifically being looked at by Admin, hence we didn't get involved. The rules haven't changed, just clarified a bit - more for those who like quoting specific rules to the Nth degree and not allowing common sense to prevail. Some people like to push the envelope for sport, but the sport is only for them, not the good of the site.
I don't consider your post a wind up, just a reasonable request for clarification with no axe to grind.
I hope that helps.

Oh dear, this normally only happens in the CA forum.
Is it going to be moved there so we can feel more comfortable about it?

Is there any need for that kind of comment Mal?
It does not help anyone and you have the cheek to say I am stirring things.
Kettle?
BTW.....I do not want to take it to pm as what needed to be said has been said already.

Fine - have a nice day
Just when you think you might want to add a comment, all of a sudden seems like it ain't even worth the time and energy . . . . Oh well . . . back on topic . . . . rolleyes

IN 2006 I HAD TO visit the forum at least three times a day as if I did not there would be simply be too much to catch up on.

But you were still a sort-of-newbie in 2006 Tweeky, and being a sort-of-newbie possibly you were still in full-on giddy kipper mode bouncing about the place? dunno I'm not sure it's the website that changes. Seems to me that what changes, once the excitement wears off is how much you invest of yourself in it, how much you value it, how much time and energy you put into it, and how real the people you talk to become? confused
Having said all that, I've never seen the forum so dead, and I agree with you ((( And Lost! ))) that splitting the forums to contain / accommodate a mere handful of users ((( For that is what I think happened? ))) was a daft idea.

Interestingly I seem to have been more active during the lat year to 18 months by far. It took me 4 years to do 1000 posts and I did the other 1300 odd in the last year or so :???: Partly because when the forum was sooooo busy back then it was impossible for me to do the posting I wanted too. Now its quieter I can reply to every one of five posts lol

In the time I have been on the site, I have seen quite a few similar threads to this, bemoaning the demise of the forums. If I could get the search to work for me I would list a few but I did find this one from July 2006.
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/84042.html
Considering that earlier in this thread, 2006 is being regarded as a highpoint, maybe the forums have been on a long and gradual decline dunno In someways that is not surprising, given that the longer a forum exists, the more topics are covered and therefore there are fewer and fewer topics left to be covered.
In my very early days on the site, one had to be very careful not to post a thread on a topic that had already been covered, otherwise the thread was killed off by a "regular" with a post saying "the search button is your friend".......thankfully those days have gone.
If you read the link I have posted, some posters were complaining then of the hijacks and banter between a small group, which had the effect of destroying threads, not to mention boosting their post numbers.......quantity does not always mean quality.
The other factor is that the site has changed considerably since 2006. Then it was still the relatively early days of the new owners and many of the original members were still active. For whatever reason, many of them have left and as newer members now have to pay for membership and I suspect many have a year in here and then move on. I'm sure it takes some people quite a while to have enough confidence to begin posting in the forums, so maybe the now more transient nature of membership is not conducive to members becoming established enough to contribute?
Anyway, I suspect that in a couple more years, we will be reading a similar thread forecasting the imminent death of the forums.
Well found Max indeed and that thread was long before I even started posting in the forums. lol
Seems just like I said....the forums go through these phases all the time, and is currently going through one at the moment.
It also seems that the same issues were being discussed then as are now, four years on.
Same kinds of people just with different names to now.
No different now to then..........as your thread proves.
Plus let us not forget the current three strikes rule, currently in place.
That has also had an effect on what and how some people post.

The forums are now a lot quieter, I dont think they will ever be as busy regardless of the phase. The above thread you linked too I remember but the problems were of a different nature. There were as stated a group of forum users who would hi jack just about every post and turn it into a total joke often ignoring the thread starter. Very clique some people would say. Ive just been looking at our post history trying to find a post I made around then where I totally lost it and told a lot of folk what I thought at the time. Will maybe take some more searching though lol

The central point of the link I posted wasn't the hijacking, it was the fact that the forums were considered to be tired and less vibrant than they had been and in need of freshening up, with several members advocating splitting up the Cafe and the setting up of a current affairs forum. It's also interesting to read that people then were complaining of religious, political, sporting threads degenerating into squabbles and ending up being locked. Plus ca change!!
The only reason I mention the hijacking of threads is that you mentioned the absence of posters with large volumes of posts ....I was just making the point that quantity does not always equal quality. It's also interesting to note that the then advocating of a CA forum wasn't to contain or accommodate anyone but to stop the more serious threads being hijacked.
You may be right that the forums may never be what they once were but I think that's down to natural evolution of the place. Ain't nostalgia a wonderful thing
when i first joined there was only 3 forums...The Cafe, Lets Meet Up and Dogging, now there is 10 forums. The Cafe was used to post everything other than Meets and Dogging, obviously this created a very busy forum. People come and go, people whinge that things have gone down hill, i've heard it all before.
The idea that the forums were at some point better than now can only come down to indivdual appreciation. It just seems like that. Those who are currently whoopdedooing it now may well take that viewpoint in a year or so.
Fairly soon we'll be saying 'the forums just aren't what they were 15 minutes ago'.
Not even a hint of oral sex in this thread.
*huff*
Better has not a lot to do with it. I guess depending on your view point there is some kind of happy medium for the forum. For me that was about a year to 18 months ago. From my own selfish point of view the forum 5 years ago was too busy. To many threads were hijacked the place felt a bit clique to me at the time. Right now the forum is too quiet lol there are like 5 updated threads a day in the cafe I could vist and be done here in about 5 mins a few times daily if I was not doing other stuff on the site. Now the happy medium about 1 year to 18 months ago. I can remember saying on the forum that my on line self employed sales dropped by 50% over a three month period due to my time spent here. Telling you now that wouldn't be the case by the 10-15 mins it would take me today. The forum was busy enough and interesting enough. There were some failings out and thread hi jacks but nowhere near as bad as five years ago quantity wise. Another way I look at it is five years ago I was minor forum squat post ratio wise. A year to 18 months ago I was a busy poster but probably not in the top ten posters ration wise. Now I am probably in the top three posters on the forum ratio wise. Think to me that speaks volumes.
I'm not saying the quality of topics/posts is a problem but right now the ratio certainly is. Its dropped off pretty quickly and its not just quiet its deathly quiet. We all know there are many posters missing from the last year I dont need to name them we all know who they are. Forums always can pick up again but right now I dont see that happening as there are not the people here to interact with. Over 5 years the forum may have gone through phases but one thing seems to have remained constant and that is the ratio of posts per day gets less. I dont see anything to convince me that trend wont continue other than this being the actual bottom
The thing is, people are commenting on how quiet it is, but nobody does anything about it! It does go in cycles; maybe this is the quietest, but it could pick up. Other sites are also quiet, including the ones where some former members went to. Those former members don't post a lot there either, they are no great loss.

I do still post in threads but rarely now do I start one.
No point is my reasons now...
Yes FB maybe some of the people who do moan should have a look at how much they contribute themselves?
There are plenty of people who comment on a thread but very few of those people will actually start one off of their own backs.
WHY dunno:dunno:
