PC gone mad. Just mentioned the Pogues thing on another thread.
*sigh* Fuckin' diabolical,I tell ya.
agreed, my digestive tract is offended!
lp
It is annoying to me how this country seems to be getting ever more PC mental.
I can understand what your saying Mr C, its another of the points that highlights the problems this country faces.
We are becoming a multi cultural society and as such that is fine, however when certain factions of the multi cultural society take offence to traditions, festivals and the social culture of the country they now inhabit this leads to just these type of problems!
Christmas is now regarded as the holiday or festive period in many offices and workplaces throughout the country as the very word itself can be deemed offensive as you mentioned. The banning of exchanging Christmas cards at work for fear of upsetting certain cultures is also common place nowadays.
The people who claim to be upset or offended by these things "IN MY OPINION" (just thought id capital that for the nit pickers and thread dissectors) could be seen as over sensitive and even radicals to whatever faith they embrace.
I don't get upset when employees from other cultures have time off work or are given special dispensation for things such as Ramadan amongst others.
It is seen as accepting members of different faiths into our society to allow them to come into work late, go home early or have extra time off, that is then expected to be covered by the people who are not celebrating these other cultural festivals.
Is it unfair for people from different faiths to accept that we have long standing traditions, social and cultural celebrations and so forth when they are living within a country that a majority of the population support?
I think this thread will probably get a few peoples backs up, there will be the usual overly PC brigade jumping in who refuse to see what most people on here so far are trying to say then it will get locked. Who know's but i understand what your saying if that helps mate!!
well considering we have been celerbrating Christmas in the UK for 2000 years you would think people would have got used the idea by now.
I'm sorry but I find the fact this numpty got offended offensive anyway..
Where else in this world would anyone moan and complain about the rights the way they do here ff's.. Jeeze...
If he found saying merry chistmas offensive he would have hated the next words from my mouth after moaning to his boss, the miserable little shit!
I know Muslims.. We have had cards.. sent them cards and shook hands they pray and go to the Mosque etc so why different?.. So to me it was yet another poxy excuse to have a go..
Bahhh Humbug ...........
Mike xx
did anyone watch eastenders
i take it this misurable bastard wont be wanting any of our christian days off work then? happy to work through and not be paid extra time either?
yeah i know were not all practcing christians, but its uk's customs.
i dont wish to offend any culture or faith, but ffs they live in the uk which is/was a majority christian culture.
its not like we dont allow them to practice their chosen customs. are we becoming the ethnic minority within our own country?
who said when in rome do as the romans dos, or at least leave the feckers do what they have been for years
x fem
If you choose to move to and or live in a country that has practiced certain traditions for millenia, you should expect to be caught up in it every so often. i myself am a guest in this country but would never dream of causing my hosts any embarassment by highlighting their ignorance of my traditions. should someone happen to know what different festival i might celebrate then bully to them. if not then a tactful approach to enlightening them is called for. constantly playing the minority card is becoming just a tad wearisome imho
Lets put this into context....if i toddled off over to, lets say, Pakistan and started making a fuss over being offended by their traditions what do you think would happen?
A) i'd get laughed at
B) they'd take me seriously and stop using the words Ramadan and Eid etc
C) i'd get jailed
D) i'd get deported
E) i'd get flogged to death by the next radical cleric
Answers on a postcard to the usual address...
Edit: to put it further into context, it should be me and a couple of million fellow "average joe" white British folk.
lol... I gotta laugh...
he said happy Christmas... Christmas when I last looked was still a 'term' used by half the civilised world.. No matter where you are people recognise Christmas..
To be so called offended is just plain stupid.. if anyone is that offended by our so called western ways why not feck off to a place that isn't so western ff's... Its not like the guy smacked him in the mouth is it?? Well not for real anyway lol...
We hear stories like this on a Daily basis.. to pander to these people is just plain stupid.. I don't care how the feck they want to live there lives and I have no intention of making them live like me.. so why the feck should we live by there rules all of a sudden..
It makes me so mad people can just sit back and watch England dissolve into oblivion.. and No before you start not by the people coming here but by the stupid over paid fat arrogant gits who make all the stupid godforsaken balmy rules that allow them to complain in the first place...
If its so fecking bad here why come here??
I don't get it sorry............
Merry Christmas to one and all....... Like it or not lol..
Mike xx
The word Christmas originated as a contraction of "Christ's mass".
Therefore to many people from a different religion, saying Happy Christmas means more to them than it does to many people in the UK who celebrate Christ's mass as a British Custom/British Culture ......... IT IS a religious term, in the eyes of others.
Sam xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Yeah like ramadam divali and many many others or whatever is... I don't get the flammin hump lol..
This is England last time I looked... We celebrate Christmas.. It's hardly offensive eh!!
I think blowing stuff up is offensive personally.. Hijacking planes.. err... Preaching hate in the street even but hey Christmas Offends them now so we had better call it something else lol...
No more nativity plays.. Hell.. Why not get rid of any church in the view of any of there houses.. must be offensive too!!
I'm getting wound up so i'm off lol...
They choose to live here do they not?
Mike xxx Happy Christmas xx
Winter Festival is a term I presume has been made up by the PC brigade to use instead of christmas for those that do not celebrate in a christian ethos (even those who are athiests etc but like the xmas spirit and get inolved in it) How long ago did the term become common useage for some. I can only recollect it being used within the last 10 years. Where I work they have take a common sense approach on religous holidays. If you want other religous days off then you can work christmas day, easter and good friday and have your own days off but not both.
In the end bah humbug to him
my nephew, who is 8 and lives with me, goes to a very multicultural school, tho muslim is becoming very dominant. they celebrated a day with the muslim children at the start of ramadam, it wasnt optional, we couldnt take our children out of school if we didnt want them to partake, it was cumpulsory. im very open minded about most things in life so it didnt bother me if my nephew was happy, but what did bother me is the fact that when my nephew wrote and put xmas cards in the school for his friends in the first week of december , he was lectured about the earliness of his gesture but also about the fact that as a multicultural school they didnt want to offend anybody!! i went to the school and after a lengthy discussion with his teacher and headmaster i was told that next year they may not be having a tree or decs up or even xmas parties for the children due to pc!!!! im dumbfounded, just a little because when i was little i lived in a country called great britain, which upheld all traditions such as xmas and easter, harvest festival etc, now it seems they may only be distant memories and a thing of the past in the next few years. so while im allowed to say it openly, happy xmas, happy holidays, happy eid, whatever it is you prefer to call it, enjoy your break everyone xxxx
