Cant argue with those, although Goodfellas No.1
layer cake aswell, quite good. forgot the british ones....
Add to the list:-
The Long Good Friday
The Firm
Gangster No1
I think sexymale21 has it about right, but I would put Goodfellas first simply because of the sheer agression some of the characters show - Godfather's a stronger, better plot mind you.
I'd welcome Snatch and Lock Stock for light relief; Get Carter (original) for a look back at the 60's and The Wanderers for a slight spin on 'Gangster' - it's street gangsters in NY, but a cracking film!

But you can't beat a good British Gangster film....just for sheer grittism and realism!

Once upon a time in America (which was mentioned)
Road to Perdition
Untouchables
Layer Cake
Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrells
Snatch
Get Carter
Gangster No 1
Essex Boys
Reservoir Dogs
Sexy Beast
A Bronx Tale
Billy Bathgate
Bugsy
Copland (more corrupt cops with a gangster feel)
Gangs of New York
The Krays
Charlie (about charlie richardson)
New Jack City
hows that lol wink
ok, how about payback, or the lee marvin original, point blank (i think that was the title)
Love, Honour and Obey.
One of the best films I have ever seen! (also I get certain warm feelings for Ray!)
Reservoir dogs or millers crossing :sparring: duel
Love, honour and obey!! Great choice
Rhys Ifans is excellent in this one.
Has nobody though of Angels with Dirty Faces, a James Cagney Classic

PMSL, you just reminded me of that night on cam, remember?! :giggle:
As for gangsta films, i love mafia films esp Goodfellas. I also like Ray Winston films (have met him a few times too, nice guy). Also liked The Untouchables.
I like the heavyness of the films but do prefer to watch something with an element of truth or some history in it too.
xx
Bugsy is a very watchable gangster movie (warren Beatty,Ben Kingsley, Harvey Keitel)
I think Bugsy Siegel may have been the first to gaze at the vast tracts of Nevada and think about sticking a fruit machine and roulette table in the middle of a desert.
Mean Streets and Taxi Driver are films worth mentioning for any fans of the Scorsese/ De Niro collaboration.
Another with Silky's favourite London wideboy Ray is...............

Ben Kingsleys brooding psychotic portrayal is as realistic a portrayal of violent criminal as I have ever seen ! If its yanksters for me would be between Once Upon a Time in America and Goodfellas both equally good in their way . For the UK its still Long Good Friday even post Guy Richie .
Has to be Goodfellas everytime

Ben Kingsley by far the best.......even better than Joe Pesci in Goodfellas!
