Just a rant to let anyone who has missed us know why we haven't been on much over the last week.
Our service provider is having problems and almost everytime we try to use the net, we find there is no service available, or we can log on, only to get thrown off within a few minutes!!! mad
Tried phoning them up only to get an automated voice mail telling us there are problems with the service in this area. We bloody well know that!!!
'Bout time they fixed it - we're having serious chatroom withdrawal problems here  lol Hmm. Wonder if we could sue for mental trauma?! wink

Got the same prob with Btconnect mad
We're on BT business broadband at work and we've been having problems loging in first thing in the morning. Once we're in everythings ok though.
There was a report in a pooter magazine last month and the companies that got the biggest slating for poor connection and or speed were : NTL / BT / AOL / /Virgin
(all the big boys!)
The Best suppliers were :
/ FairAdsl / Get Online Broadband / ICUK Breathe.
(all the smaller companies)
Maybe handy if you bear this in mind when your contract comes up for renewal.
If you are having probs with NTL pop over to , u will not be alone in your frustration there confused

For a full and definitive guide to the various Broadband suppliers and ISPs have a look at and to compare your ISP against various others.
Oh and there's lots of other interesting items on the as well
I've had no problems with AOL broadband, been on for 6 months and it's great.
To be fair, we've been on NTL broadband for over a year now and had no probs until recently.
Maybe it only bother's us so much as we now have no idea of what else we can do with our spare time if the broadband is down and we can't get on the chatroom!
Tried shagging all night but sometimes we need a little time to recover before the next bout redface

I have been with blueyonder now for over a year and never had any problems, they even made it 50% faster for free

problems with the service in this area.

Story of my life ;)
If i can help RE connection probs I dont mind giving any info I have.
I take it you are using Dial Up 56k modem with NTL.
NTL may suggest you go to their Broadband high-speed service.
It is faster - but there are a few things you shoudl check first.
One is wether your computer is up to it.
If it is an older model - then it may not take the new modem.
Although i have to say in my experience NTL broadband uses one of the best modems in the market, beating Telewest, BT and Pipex, as well as homechoice AOL and others. Best being small in size, easy to configure and using two connections Ethernet Network cable and USB - both supplied.
Two is security. With any Broadband high-speed service you are continually on.
Just like your computer being your home - and the internet being your street and local area, you would need to check you have security that you are happy with. You dont want anyone jumping over your back wall! I always suggest some form of firewall and antivirus to anyone considering high speed. This does not need to cost any money - there are free products that do this.
You can go to any one of hundreds of high speed providers. NTL are pretty cheap (start at £18 a month i think) and pipex (need BT phone line) are a little complicated with their set up but start at £16. Technically these are like two or three times faster as your current - but dont tie up your phone line. You can be on the phone and the internet at the same time. In reality these are closer to 5 times your current speed. But you want an "unlimited" service. It doesnt cost more. It shouldnt. If you want faster than these services you can - you just pay more. But once you start a contract you are tied in for a year. They will let you go faster/pay more but not stop paying.
Sorry - seem to have written an essay smile hope it is useful :)
Let me know if i can help more.

you may be the best advert for aol... i am on AOL dial up and have no end of problems...i would go broadband but my computer is so old (steam powered) it would probably have a breakdown at the thought of new technology... akin to my mum trying to work out how the video works..... biggrin :D :D :D :D

Aol (pronounced AO -Hell) software is a pooter cancer . It takes over your pc and is the most resource hogging isp software i have eveer had the misfortune to come across ( for my sins i am a pooter engineer). I have lost count of the call outs i get for AOL . typically it goes something like '' my pc was fine , then i installed AOL now my pc is very slow'' the simple reason is that the software is hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ... Pipex for example is minisicule in comparison, and in my experience just as easy to set up.
its a shame that most peeps only know bout the big boys coz there are some outstanding ISP providers out there offering non intrusive software at superb connection rates / fees.
On the flip side if ISP's like AOL werent quite so bad i would have less work lol

You are totally right there.
A lot of people dont realise they are also being bombared with adverts too. Wanadoo and others i believe do this (sorry if wrong).
You are also totally right about the "big boys"
there are plenty of little and very reasonable companys (ISP's) that do good service.
Pipex is one - but there are many more.
Pipex gets good reviews - higher than most - but it is a little "user unfriendly"
By which i mean it's email takes a little time to configure.
Well worth it for as low as £16 or £18 a month though!
I will use this to haggle my current ISP down smile once the one year is up :)
Hi all,
I am also on ntl broadband however i very rarely have problems with my connection and find switching off the modem for a few seconds normally rectifies the problem, however i assume you have already tried that.
There is a site called that allows you to check your connection for free, if this is any use to you.

Thank you to everyone who has offered help and advice.
We've tried a few things and maybe some of it has worked as we haven't been cut off tonight at all smile
