Yes, the church (or at least the Catholic one that I was brought up in!) would celebrate St Patricks day on Saturday this year. This is because 17th March falls in Holy Week, the week they remember the lead up to Jesus' death, so no celebrating allowed really. Apparently, as it's usually in lent anyway, many of teh staunch Catholic Irish go to queue at the Church first thing in the morning in order to be allowed to break the lenten fasting!
OK, enough of the religious stuff!

We always celebrated St Patricks day as we have an irish sister-in-law..
We now have to celebrate it as our daughter was born on the 17th March 11 years ago at ..
There was a huge bet going on when i was due to have her and everybody said she would be a St Patricks day baby and they were all right.. lol
Any excuse to get rat faced hubby Steve said and by god did he, as he put it " Im only wetting the baby's head" Lol.
