Excuse me if this has already been covered... but I only found out about it yesterday while at work. Have a look at.....

It must be some kind of electrol roll... where you can type in a surname and place and find people... It gives out address's and on some...even phone numbers!!!!
Dunno about you lot... But I'm not to chuffed with my details being on it... !!!!!
There are other sites like this, for example, this is what the computer generation has brought us unfortunately but look on the bright side this site wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the wonders of technology biggrin
Maybe.....
But on this site we have the CHOICE if we want people to know our full personal name, address and in some cases.... phone numbers!!!!
Ive checked mine....it lists me as being at my former address, even though I reregistered on the electorall roll ages ago, so it seems the information is out of date......I hope....
I checked mine too and was very relieved to see my phone number was NOT listed. What's the point of being ex-directory if sites like this hand your number out to all and sundry?
i too am not very happy about this imagine you adress or phone no getting in the wrong hands is there anyway we can get this stopped
It has my correct address, but I'm only listed under my Maiden name. Its not really any different to a directory enquiries search.
Whenever I have to update my electoral role details I always tick the box that prevents them from selling my details on to mailing lists.

When you fill in the electoral role paperwork, there is a question which asks if you want your details to be published, if you tick no, like we did, then your details are not avaiable on things like this, which our arnt.
Dont think there is any way you can have them taken off once they have been added, but next time you register, make sure you tick the box saying your dont want your details publising.
As for sites like this handing out phone numbers, it doesn't happen with this site.

Sites such as this can make freely available anything such as Electoral Registers, Phone Directories etc which are in the public domain.
As from last year anyone can opt out of such publicly available registers, so although you would still have to be on the original, you can opt out of the one available to the general public.
However, sites such as that may still continue to use outdated registers or directories so details may still be available to those who want them.
Some of that site is out of date anyway. My own details are at least five or six years out of date as they show my oldest son's still living at home and they haven't been here for over sex years lol
This site would not be covered under the same rules as this is a private site so in theory they would not publish personal details since they have not been gleaned from a publicly available source.
If they intended to do it however, they would have to inform members and at least give them the choice to remove details first.
I know everyone craves their personal freedom about their details, but what most people do not realise is the extent of publicly available details about our everyday lives.
Even the national indexes to births, marriages and deaths is now on line since this is also a public domain service and can be accessed by anyone in the world..
We don't have as much privacy as we think believe me, but it's no reason to become paranoid wink

Mmm had a look too...... were in but no phone details and yes its old info as we were married last year and one name is wrong... were also ex directory so its a combination of info they must gather!! Might explain why no phone details for us anyway!!

It's this one - The Telephone preference Service -

Stops sales calls to both land lines and mobiles as well as junk mail through the post etc.
Once registered, it takes about a month to take effect, but is very a very good service, but it won't stop you appearing on such sites as the one mentioned, as you would have to opt out of these on the next Electoral Registration form by ticking the appropriate box on the form of registration or by going ex-directory on your phone provider.

Thing is you still have to know what you are looking for to find it ! I found me but I am out of date ! but I did find some past people I have known , but again I could look them up in the phone book or electoral roll at the library or even, shock! horror! go see them ! ps if you freak out at that, try punching in your postcode ! some search engines give you a map showing where you live ! Try When people as me my postcode I tend to put SL1 1AA look it up !
At least I now can remind myself of my neighbours names without having to ask them again!!! lol
there is now a box that u can tick on the electoral role form that u get so that this does not occur, i ticked mine last year and i have just checked and i am not on it thank feck, but i did find my mum dad and sister, so i will tell them in the morning cos u can remove it
